Infections and smart balls/ben wa balls/etc.

Contributor: butts butts
I'm getting some Smartballs soon, but I just thought of something. Does using these for a few hours a day increase your chances of yeast infections? Assuming that you clean them after each use of course. I can't see these being much of an issue, but I've had several infections over the last year and I definitely don't want to do anything that will increase the chance of me getting another!

I don't see much of an issue during use, given proper cleaning. The balls do not alter your natural pH, which is what controls the yeast population.

Either way, if you wanted, you could do things to make your vagina even stronger. The number one thing would be to eat yogurt with active cultures. Really, everyone should eat yogurt with cultures and isn't full of added sugars.

Oh, some things about yeast infections. I'm not a doctor (yet) and feel free to research this stuff, but hope it helps:

-Being diabetic, you have more sugars in your body, yeast like sugar.

-Taking antibiotics or certain medications: antibiotics kill the good bacteria in your vagina, causing yeast to grow out of hand. Either take acidophilus or eat yogurt when on antibiotics.

-High sugar diet, again, yeast like sugar.

-Sperm: it's alkaline, meaning it raises the pH of your vagina, making it less able to keep it acidic. Lower acidity increases yeast populations.

-Stress. Stress and change in diet can raise your chances of infection.

Either way, this is stuff every lady should know!

I don't think it would increase any chances. We use toys and it doesn't cause us to get yeast infections and such.
