If you had a friend ask you for a suggestion for their first sex toy, for whatever purpose (anal, vaginal, p-spot, clitoral, etc) they were after, what toy woudl you suggest and why?

Compact for vaginal, G-spot and clitoral, all at once. (Yep, it can do that.) Unless they only wanted clitoral stimulation, in which case Delilah. Also, I'd remind them not to forget the lube, and to get one that's good quality. My favorite is Maximus.
Most importantly: get a toy made of a safe material. Most people first exploring sex toys are not going to want to have to learn about how to handle materials that aren't as safe.

Might I suggest a "Rabbit"-type vibe?..
That was MY first toy..(not so long ago!), and I couldn't have been happier with it!

Anal/P-spot: fingers. From there you can figure out which sensation(s) you like and choose your toy. From that I'd probably move to a medium-small plug or a smooth G-spot wand depending on what sensation you like.

Well, first I'd ask them what their preference was. For instance, I can't use hard materials as it causes pain due to endometriosis and surgeries. Now, the soft jellies or silicones are perfect for women who have similar issues. They're actually a popular preference among all women. My favorite toy was the strap on clit vibes, but only Doc Johnson, the other brands were absolutely nightmarish! But that's just me. I'm still a huge fan of the strap on clit vibe. It's easy and very attractive, non-intimidating.
Also, I prefer slim ones and always have. I don't think a huge insertable toy is always a good idea for newer users or even some advanced. It's best to choose a decent size then work your way up.
I'd think a good one to go with would be a soft, maybe flexible clit vibe that is insertable as well. The rabbits are all wonderful, but not sure if there perfect for everyone. G-spot toys are good too, but I would definitely start out with one that's good for clit stim as well. You can get one that will do both.
