That would be really interesting. In a slightly twisted way, lol

Yeah, it was sort of funny, but I had been looking forward to reading that particular story (thinking it would be hot), so wound up feeling grumpy over it. Rapunzel rapping to a camo-clad hunter just didn't work for me at all.
That was the most disturbing "rap" I had ever seen...it looked so darned out of place in the story! The fact that it was a silly abyssmal rap made it worse!

Now *that* is a version I'd love to read!

LOL! That's what Alan said; "Could they have at least used a sexy rap?"

Or one that made sense? Or mentioned where she would have heard such a piece of filth having been locked up all her life. I just couldn't see where the author was going with that one. Then he turns out to only be interested in frottage....just weird.

Maybe she was just going for a surprising twist? There was something of a surprise in every story.

Very true. At least the author made up for it in the other stories though.

I think Rapunzel is my favorite story and I didn't have one in Fairy Tale Lust. Hmm... it really may be time to start thinking about FTL 2!

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.... hehehehe. More dwarf action!

Alice in Wonderland (not quite a fairy tale, but I could do soooo much with it)

Pinocchio (LAWL)

Rapunzel (I have a storyline in mind)

So, how do you feel about fairy tales that are retold in contemporary language (such as Craig Sorensen's riff on the Ugly Duckling in "Ducking")?

What about original fairy tales that include elements of the classics but are completely new?

Finally, what do you think are the current "classics" of the fairy tale genre? Do you think novels like Twilight fit the fairy tale genre?

I actually liked the very modern twist on The Ugly Duckling.

I think that Twilight can sort of go into fairy tale, just for the vampires, but it would have to be in a subsection of sorts.

Pinocchio is an interesting one to contemplate as an erotic fairy tale.

While I enjoyed some of the more contemporary tales (the little mermaid one comes to mind), I definitely prefer the ones that are told within the world of the original fairy tale. I can't explain why, although Freud's theory of the Uncanny comes to mind.

I'm not quite sure many modern narratives fit into the genre of "fairy tale", as a fairy tale is generally a short story with some sort of moral lesson. So, I don't think any novels fit into the category.

I don't think Twilight fits...but maybe just because it's entirely on my nerves. But the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe could easily be considered a modern fairy tale, and I'm sure some mythical erotica could be concocted of it.

I personally prefer new stories told in a classic way. That's not to say I don't like modern retellings, just that I am usually drawn to the either first.

I am on the fence about the current classics, though. While I personally don't understand Twilight (and am thus resistant!), I do love Harry Potter and I would say that he definitely counts as a fantastic fairy telling.

Kristina, have you by any chance read Transformation s by Anne Sexton? Toooootally gives an interesting spin on Rapunzel, and i think could make a very hot piece of erotica. In fact, I may start writing it

See, I don't consider HP or Chronicles of Narnia or any full-length piece to fit into the genre. To me, fairy tales and fantasy novels are separate things, even if they're only divided in terms of length.

Hmm... tough questions. It's not bad if they're written in contemporary language, but for me it does take away some of the fairy tale element. Ducking could have easily been in an anthology that had nothing to do with fairy tales.

As for original fairy tales, well anything original is always worth reading.

Funny you mentioned Twilight because I just read the first two books this past weekend (yes, I'm late on the bandwagon). I wouldn't call it a fairy tale, no. More like a paranormal drama. Now I'm racking my brain trying to think of a modern story that rings like a fairy tale... The Princess Diaries, maybe?

I think Harry Potter fits the "quest story" motif found in most fairy tales, absolutely!

Actually CS Lewis wrote his Narnia series to teach his niece Lucy about the Bible so it entirely fits the fairytale definition in that it is a cautionary/morality tale meant to educate (not that I'm saying the Bible is a fairytale, but the definition does fit)
