I've heard good things about menstrual cups and I'd like to try them
Do you, have you ever, would you ever use menstrual cups?
09/12/2012
soft cups and lunette all the way.
09/12/2012
I haven't used them, but I would try them at least once.
09/12/2012
I broke down last night and spent the $5 for a package of the disposable Instead Softcups. Trying the first one right now, and so far so good! I figure if I get through two or three periods and I'm still happy with the disposables, I'll get myself a reusable cup.

Pads and tampons for me. Cups make me nauseous.
09/15/2012
I use insteads and they are awesome.
09/15/2012
Cups sound messy. Tampons and pads are easier for me to use.
09/15/2012
I love my Diva Cup and have convinced most of my friends to switch over. They're cleaner, more cost effective, and safer than most menstrual care items.
09/15/2012
i would consider it
09/15/2012
nope
09/15/2012
I'd consider it, but since I don't even do well with tampons... I do not foresee a happy outccome.
09/16/2012
never used one but might
09/16/2012
Cat E.
I'd never be interested in using one.

I started using disposable soft cups after learning about them in an Eden forum. Now, I'll never go back. I've had one instance of leakage and that was early on when I was learning how to get the cup properly in place. I love that you can wear them for up to 12 hours and during sex. There is a bit of an ick factor, but no more for me than taking out a bloody tampon or rolling up a soiled pad. There is much less odor, they are totally comfortable - I forget I even have it in, and I feel like I have much more mobility with the cups, especially in comparison to wearing a pad. They are worth a try at least, so you don't miss out on something that may work really well for you.

I've never liked the idea of reusing something that has been touching blood, unless I got an autoclave in my house I would just feel gross reusing them. I couldn't imagine the mess if there was a leak, especially on the first few days!
Since I don't have any problems with my tampons I think I'll stick to them for now.

I use a DivaCup, sometimes if I'm irritated or don't want anything inside of me, I just use pads. Sometimes I use tampons if I want it to be more convenient. But the Divacup is awesome and I really do love it! It is really comfortable, I can't feel it, saves me money and waste... honestly, I don't know what the big deal is with people thinking they're gross. They are very great and I have had a good experience.

I recently switched to a Diva Cup, and I couldn't be happier with it. Pads and tampons were always extremely uncomfortable for me and a nuisance to use and buy. On the other hand, I can't feel the cup at all and one can last for years if you take care of it. Seems like a no-brainer.
There's also the health factor to consider: many disposable products contain all sorts of unfriendly chemicals (seriously, who wants bleach in their vagina?!) and tampons in particular are the most common cause of toxic shock syndrome. Really, the idea of using disposables is kind of scary when you know what's in them.
As for cleaning my cup, that doesn't bother me at all. Bloody pads and tampons seem way grosser to me, plus they smell much worse and pile up in the trash.

I had a Diva cup for a long time, I love it and swear by it BUT since I got Mirena, I don't really get periods anymore so I don't use it much!
11/15/2012
Rin I have noticed the same thing! There is absolutely NO odor with the DivaCup, whereas with tampons and pads I felt like I was constantly dealing with that odor.

I wonder it it's one of the chemicals in the disposable items that reacts with the blood and makes it smell so bad (perhaps the ever-ambiguous "fragrance"). It's just one of the many reasons I love the Diva Cup so much - no smell at all.

It's a small, bell-shaped cup most commonly made of silicone or rubber (reusable ones, anyway. I think the disposables are made of thin plastic) that is inserted into the vagina during a woman's menstrual cycle to catch the blood. It is then periodically emptied and then either cleaned and reinserted if reusable, or thrown away and a new cup inserted if disposable. There are now also disposable cups that are slightly stronger, meant to be used throughout one full period before being thrown away.

Here are two sites I found when I was researching cups, if you want more info. You could also search for "menstrual cups" on google, you'll find tons of info.

That is interesting, but I would totally forget about it if I don't see bleeding.

Menstrual cups are small cups, usually made of silicone, worn inside the vagina, below the cervix. They create a suction seal that prevents leaks and collect flow rather than traditional pads and tampons which absorb. They are considered superior because they can usually hold more than a tampon and be worn without changing them for up to 12 hours depending on flow, but for most women it's at least several hours longer than they can wear a tampon without leaks. They are usually reusable, like our silicone toys they can be boiled to sterilize. So they also save money. Because most tampons are bleached with harsh chemicals and contain rayon they aren't good for our bodies, especially considering how many tampons most women will use in their lifetime. Tampons also cause dryness for many women and can cause yeast infections or bacterial infections. They also may leave fibers behind which might be problematic, or at least not terribly clean. Most women I've talked to or read say they love them, that they are ultimately way more convenient, more comfortable, more effective and save them a lot of money. I just ordered my first one and I'm so excited to try it!

I loved my Diva Cup, while I was having periods.
11/27/2012
I use a Diva Cup and LOVE it!! I have been using them for about 5 years, and have only had to replace it once.
I don't think it's gross at all, and I love saving money and garbage, and lots of time since it doesn't have to be changed as often.
I do use a pantyliner my first and last day of my period instead of the cup though, since my flow is very very light those days. The cup is not as comfortable when it's "drier" up there.
I really recommend it for any ladies out there.

I like disposable cups, and use them with pantyliners just in case. I want to try reusable cups, but they tend to be a bit expensive.
