If it's not one thing, it's another.

Last week I got my first yeast infection in 7, maybe even 10 years. Just as it clears up, I get my period. First a bread surplus and now blood... lady-land is not a happy country of late!

My mom commented that, if she gets a yeast infection, it'll most likely come right before her period. I'm wondering if it's a common thing to get infections beforehand (I certainly hope that this last time was just a fluke for me - my periods have previously been bread-free). Does this happen to anyone else?

Well, when I was in my 20s and early 30s this was very common. Then it just kinda tapered off. I don't know if it was an age thing or I got smarter about diet and body care products or what but now I only get a yeast infection if I happen to take antibiotics for an infection.

I am sorry you are dealing with this, those things are horrible! Only time I really get them are after I have been on antibiotics

I know what you mean, 90% of the time before my period I would get a yeast infection and nothing seemed to stop if from happening. - UNTIL - I made the conscious effort to drink 2 lts of water every day. Now I hardly every get them and I get wetter easier during sexy times.

I've gotten them during my period, but not before. I switched over to a menstrual cup and haven't had problems since. Sounds like that probably won't help here though. If it becomes a recurring issue, maybe consult your OB.

Ugh, I need to get an OB - thanks for reminding me. Definitely will hurry on that front if it keeps up. I damn near screamed when I finally got curious about the irritation I was feeling and (using a mirror) took a look down there. Then I vaguely remembered having yeast infections when I was a kid, and managed not to freak.

Incidentally, I just ordered a menstrual cup today, and rush-ordered so it should be here tomorrow. I don't want to use a tampon so soon after an infection and I've been wanting to try a cup, so I figure now's a good time to try it.

I wish I knew what caused this one. Glycerin never did it, douching (which I know is bad for you, so I do so very rarely) never did it, tampons never did it, antibiotics never did it... No idea what happened this time.

I shall have to try that, if only because I wouldn't mind getting wetter.
