I use Implanon for birth control and I hadn't had a period in about six months. Before that, I got them every two or three months. I've had it about a year now. I got this period and used a tampon which I've always done. The next day I got a yeast infection. I've used tampons forever without issue. Now, it's worth mentioning that I'm very sensitive and get yeast infections from lots of different soaps and ingredients and such, but never from a tampon before. Is this a possible cause? I haven't changed anything else. Now I'm stuck with a period and a yeast infection at the same time. Let me just say, I'm MISERABLE!!! Any ideas, ladies?

Sounds like something went off in your body with this period. Could be you won't be able to tolerate tampons...I guess wear pads? The Lady Garden is sometimes more like Dante's Inferno with all that can go wrong! Sorry to hear you are so miserable.

Well that just...sucks. I hate pads. I may have to look into one of those silicone tampon-like things 'cause I don't know if I can deal with the pads. *sigh*

Ugh, I hate pads too. I used to be a die hard tampon user until I discovered menstrual cups - they are the best! They take some getting used to, and I was super weirded out by them at first, but now I can't live without mine. I use a Lunette and I love it. There are lots of different brands though, I would suggest checking out a menstrual cup information website (there is a live journal that I found really helpful - not sure if I can link to it here?) If that's allowed I am happy to post some resources, or I could send you some.

Anytime you stick anything up there, you risk infection. Have you recently taken antibiotics? They are always a culprit for me.

Soaking a tampon in plain yogurt and leaving it in overnight has always worked for me. I get yeast irritation when I eat too much sugar.

Lunette was the one I was looking at. I actually dug up that LJ post from another thread.
No antibiotics. I wish I had. At least that would make sense.
Yogurt on a tampon? Never heard of that! I'll have to try it. Thanks!

I take antibiotics regularly and unfortunately have to deal with infections more frequently than i'd like to (which of course ideally is never). The yogurt thing totally works. My doctor recommended that after she told me your body can actually become immune to the active ingredients in things like monistat.

The plain yogurt on a tampon will save your lady bits. Even if you have outer irritation let it sit on your vulva and you are good to go. My grandma always told me that so I stick to it.

Going to try this out next time a infection comes around.
