Where do you like to go for your women's health check ups?

Contributor: wrecklesswords wrecklesswords
I've never been to an actual OB/GYN for my lady check ups. I've always gone to Planned Parenthood. Really, the only reason is because they have been cheaper. The first time I went was because my mother was starting me on the pill. The next time was recently and it was for a general check up and because it's cheaper.

Where have you been? Do you prefer one over the other? I'm very interested in knowing everyone's experiences and opinions

When I lived in pittsburgh they had a great Womens health plan. I paid no money since I was a student in college who only worked part time. I got everything free, without being restricted to a certain obgyn. I really liked the place, it was never over crowded, my doctor took her time and they really took care of me. I got all my pills and everything free.

I recently moved to LA. And Ive only gone to planned parenthood because it is what I can afford here, since it is free. It isn't horrible. But it is overcrowded and they try and rush through things compared to my other place. I will probably continue to go there unless I can find another low cost obgyn that is much more like my last one.

I've always gone to an OB/GYN because my health insurance fully covers my visits. I've had the same OB/GYN since I was 16. I really like my doctor; even though she is incredibly busy she will still take her time with me and make sure she answers answers all of my questions.

Oh wow, a free PP? That's pretty amazing, but I can understand the downside of being crowded and them rushing through their patients.

Yeah it is free for women who cant afford it. They ask for a donation but you dont have to give them one and you dont feel pressure or bad for not giving them one. They are very polite about it.

I have gone to a gyno once, but it takes so long to get an appointment there I just either go to PP or the school nurse at university. Thanks for the reminder, Im due for my yearly one!

Either my gyno or the Women's Health Center at the hospital, which has free check ups.

I think that I might try to look into women's health centers at the hospital nearest me.

In my younger years I had a nurse-practitioner (I didn't start going to get "woman care" until I became pregnant at 17). Loved it. Had to pick an OB when I moved to Nevada because of my insurance (that's all that was available for female care). Hated it.

Since I'm a student now I go to the Student Health Center. I can just walk in and it's cheap or free, depending on the service.

I've been to planned parenthood once or twice, a long time ago. I much prefer just going to my regular practitioner.

I just go to my regular Dr - they do everything over here so there's no need to have a handful of different Drs.

Same. Here you just go to your regular doctor. You only get a referral to an OB-GYN if there's a problem.

I bounce back and forth between my regular Dr and my OB/GYN. I have female health problems so I need both of them to get everything taken care of.

I'd really like to have a regular doctor, but not having insurance makes that difficult.

Do any of you go to your regular practioner/OBGYN without insurance?

I've never gone without insurance, but my old insurance only covered the visit so I had to pay for pap smear and STD tests. The tests cost $85 each so I imagine the price of the visit would make the total cost close to $300.

I go to an ob/gyn for my checkups because the copay for appointments is cheaper than the fee for a pap or other gyn service at the school clinic and the service is much better. I do get my pill rx filled at the school pharmacy though.

Since i don't have insurance,i have only been to planned parenthood. My exams are affordable and when i was on the pill it cost $12 a month. They let you know if you should see general doctor or OBGYN like when i had an irregular mole.

I had my first one done with my regular doctor, but since then I've gone to my OB-GYN. I've been seeing her for years, like her much better, and she's reasonably priced through my insurance. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I started going to a family planning clinic (not PP) when I started having sex because it was cheap and very confidential, as well as close by. When I got a little older I realized I really wanted a different ob/gyn. When I went to a new doctor, I was so amazed at how great she was, and never went back to the clinic. I found that clinics are understaffed for how much they are demanded and needed, so they are often really impersonal. They were great for my teenage, underinsured needs, but as an adult aside from during times of not being insured (like now) I will always go to regular ob/gyns.
