no, but it didn't 'get to me' really, I feel like it a lot of hype.

I did when I first started reading the 1st book, but by the time I got part way through book 3 I was getting a bit bored!

Funny you should ask. My husband read all three books...it was as a 'gift' for me for my birthday. I will say, I found him going directly to the books when he came home from work.

Ugh, no. I can't read it. It's abuse.

I agree that Christian Grey is an abusive sort--he apologizes before he hurts Ana, rather than after but that doesn't make it any less abusive. He is also controlling. Even when he drops the desire to inflict hurt/harm to Ana and other women, he remains abusive and controlling, inflicting "punishment" on Ana when she exerts her independence. He can justify his desires all he wants, but abuse and control is still abuse and control.

No, it's a bunch of abuse and it's poorly written too. I'm trying to stomach the 3rd book right now.

Thank you, I'm glad someone said it !!
If you like the book as erotica, that's one thing. But I see so many inexperienced people coming into the BDSM community all because of that book, and then they find themselves in way over their head- oftentimes way too late.
Christian never respected Ana's privacy, her use of a safe word, aftercare... all things that are essential in a D/s relationship. He spanks her for the first time and then LEAVES HER TO CRY ALONE IN HER ROOM. That's unheard of, aftercare is so important.
So these people come in and find Doms who aren't really Doms and who abuse them, or they don't respect their safe word or even make one, or they realize that being strapped to a table, spread, and practically beaten isn't all that erotic and really painful for them and it becomes a traumatic experience.
The book glorifies abuse and it has done nothing but hurt those in the BDSM community.

It's kind of horrifying how pro-rape the book is. I don't think I'll ever read it. There's decent erotica, kinky and non, out there.

Nope. Not a fan of it

No. We both feel all annoyed about it's misinterpretation of BDSM, though.

My guy read it, and he thought it was a joke. He got about two chapters in before he turned to me and said, "why am I reading this?" -- he continued on reading it, finishing all three books... Only to tell me that he felt like he had just wasted precious moments of his life. Sadly.. I felt about the same way when I read them.
