What do you do specifically for menstrual cramps?

Tylenol and coffee (it makes a much nicer pamprin), plus I use a heating pad over my pelvis.

Before birth control I had killer cramps - the type in which I couldn't work and got sent home because I'd become useless. When I finally got home, it was three naproxen (Aleve) and a very large heating pad (12"X24") wrapped around my pelvis from front to back while lying in bed. It made the 'digesting a brick' feeling tone down to a 'don't move and it won't twinge' sort of thing.

Orgasms.
Hot baths.
Hot showers.
Ibuprofen.
A good back rub.
Screaming at the top of my lungs.
I am on HBC and I have never had cramps so bad in my life. It's a trade-off for not being a psychopathic bitch the remainder of the month and no marked effect on my sex drive.

If I don't have my Midol Extra Strength during my period, WATCH OUT! Coffee, orgasms and showers help as well. But, nothing gets rid of the pain quite like Midol for me. I don't normally like to take pills, just my BC every day, and Midol during that time of the month.

Orgasms (if i have the time and privacy) and ibuprofen and sometimes a heating pad.

A nice hot bath
Rubbing myself down with oil, or getting lucky enough to be rubbed down
Nice cup of tea... good movies
20 minutes of yoga.

Advil, and a hot shower if scheduling permits.

Heat sometimes helps, but I don't own a heating pad or have those one-time-use chemically-heating pads anymore, so I just enjoy shower time a bit more. I've found that cold can work just as well as long as I'm not terribly cold all over already. I have cold hands almost all the time, so if my belly hurts from cramps, I'll just warm my hands up on it. Then I feel less pain and my hands are warmer! Win-win!

Pamprin. The anti bloat ingredient seems to be what allows it to work better for me than tylenol or advil do. If I don't have Pamprin around I will take Aleve, my dr recommended that for cramps, said it works better than advil or tylenol.
I also use a heating pad (the little "Hot Love" ones that Eden sells are awesome) and wear comfy clothes. If time allows I take a nice hot bath, but the heating pad is a necessity for me. Actually, this summer we traveled up to NJ from NC and I brought those little hot love packs with me and they were a lifesaver because I had horrible cramps on the way up and being able to activate those was an absolute blessing and the only way I made that trip without being in misery.
Also, the first day of my period when my cramps are in full force I don't use any kind of internal device like tampons or my diva cup. I stick to pads those first couple of days and it lessens the cramps considerably.

I have to take Aleve. Its the only medicine that helps me.

Orgasms help me tremendously. They reduce the cramps intensity, tend to knock everything loose and I end up only on my period for 4-5 days instead of 9 days.

Xenoestrogen detox! Not really an "immediate relief" solution, but after getting rid of the xenoestrogens in my diet and controllable environment and doing basic body detox like this one, my cramps have decreased significantly.
Speaking of xenoestrogens - I also recommend alternative feminine hygeine products. The bleach, formaldehyde, etc. in traditional brands is poison and can cause lots of painful problems. Sea sponges or diva cups and cloth pads are totally the way to go.
Also, willow & cedar tea is great (especially if you make it fresh with willow bark and cedar leaves), crampbark works very well too.
Swimming is great for me, cause it's low impact and lets me get my mind off cramps without getting all hot and sweaty and gross.... and bonus that there's a hot tub at the pool to lounge in for a few minutes afterward.

Usually nothing works for my cramps. I have tried midol, pamprin, tylenol, ibuprofen and any over the counter pain med possible. The only thing that works for me is steaming hot showers to relax me a little bit and then curling up in the fetal position and ignoring the world until it is over. Unfortunately, I have a life and children to attend to so I usually just have to wander around like a zombie trying to make other people comfortable.

My doctor suggested Aleve, which has worked wonders for me. I take two when I first start getting cramps, and then I take one every 4 hours or so (whatever the instructions say). I'm also on birth control which helps.
Oh! And I have a hot water bottle. Its wonderful to just lay it on my stomach/pelvic area and take a nap.

Moist heat heating pad, midol or a glass of red wine. It has gotten so bad in the past that my doc has prescribed muscle relaxants but they tend to stop the contractions and drag my period out so I usually try other methods. I have found using a hard plastic toy and orgasming often helps even out the cramps, if that makes sense.

But I have heard heating pads work well.

I usually just ignore it. I don't like to take medicine for every bit of pain I have. I have noticed, though, if I am working or moving around, I don't feel as bad as I would if I was just sitting and griping about the pain.
12/23/2010
Long hot baths, curling up into the fetal position, sleeping. I used to smoke a lot of pot to help with it, since I have had my kids I no longer consider this a viable option.

Advil. I actually find that orgasms make my cramps worse. When my boyfriend and I have sex right before my period, I usually end up curled in the fetal position for 15 minutes afterwards.
12/23/2010
When I got them really bad I would use an old fashioned hot water bottle on my tummy. The heat, combined with the weight, was really an excellent temporary remedy that allowed me to relax and get some sleep.

I use Direx water pills to help keep the bloating and water weight gain down. It's about the only thing that really works and it helps a bit with my cramps too.
If I can stay active and at least take a short walk around the neighborhood, my cramps won't be so bad. I'm on the birth control pill now though so I really don't get horrible cramps anymore.

A simple suggestion: lay on your back with your knees bent (so that your feet are flat and close to you butt). Being in this position will take some of the tension out of your uterus.
I think it really helps, plus, it gives you some time to relax.

I used to suffer from such terrible period pain. But over the past three to four years they have basically all stopped, and other than this sharp pain in my left ovary every seventeen days, I have no pain or discomfort.
I used to be on the pill, then went to Depo... but stopped all that as I was not happy with anything about them all.
I do nothing, other than the week before I am expecting my period, eat tofu and fish every day. I experience no bloating, no cramps, no muscle aches, no joint problems or anything like I used too go through.
