What cosmetics do you wear? (Men, you too!)

Contributor: DeliciousSurprise DeliciousSurprise
I always hear women around me talking about how they feel like they are seen as less attractive if they don't wear cosmetics, and I wonder: is that relative to where I live? I'm always intrigued by societal pressure on appearance; so tell me: what do you wear on a daily basis.

For the purposes of this poll, frequently means two or three times a week, infrequently means two or three times a month, rarely means once a month or less.

Lipstick is used to refer to any kind of lip product meant to enhance colour or shine. Things like chapstick, which are clear, and are kind of in the medicinal/lip health category are not the same. Foundation and blush are grouped together because they're in the same category and if I put them separately my poll would be a thousand miles long; if you wear one but not the other, please click the ticky box anyway.

I don't feel pressured to wear it, and I'm not one of those people who won't leave the house without it, but I do feel more attractive when I wear makeup.

I have never been a makeup wearer, and my boyfriend prefers when I don't wear it. That makes it easy for me to clean my face and avoid blemishes!

Usually too hot in Florida to wear make up. I wouldn't mind it everyday, as I like how I look with it on, but going to school in the heat? Just not worth it. The only times I really wear make up are for appointments, dates, and social gatherings.

Although I do sometimes swipe some lipstick on before classes. I'm one of those lucky people who look totally made up and put together with the right shade of lipstick and nothing else.

I wear*: liquid foundation, eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara three out of seven days for sure. The rest are up in the air dependent on what we're doing. I've taken a break the last couple of weeks because all I've been doing is keeping my hubby occupied while going through this sciatic episode, so the footloose fancy free attitude has been lax and I just didn't feel like it.

I don't feel pressure to wear make up. In fact, I never wore make up to work. I felt it would be a distraction, little did I know everyone else was thinking the exact opposite. Go figure. If I did go back to work I don't think I'd wear make up unless it was a photographed event of some kind (not likely to happen, any way) and it would still be light enough to look natural.

* Lipstick creeps me out. I hate the way it feels, smells, and tastes. Not to mention, getting it off of my face and drinking glasses is a royal pain.

I almost never wear make up-just lip gloss. Now that I'm back in school I am rushing around in the morning and don't care to take the time. When I am working again or when I go on a date with my partner I do wear it.

I wear makeup every day when I'm working - mascara, eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, eyeshadow, foundation, blush, lipstick. On weekends I'll just wear mascara and lipstick if I'm going somewhere. For going to the gym or staying home - nothing.

I dislike how mascara feels, but wear it anyway. I love the feel of lipstick. That I often wear even if I'm home alone.

I wear mascara and eyeliner when I go out. But other then that I don't wear any makeup. Just lip gloss or chap stick.

I love wearing make up, absolutely fricking love it. I didn't start wearing make up until I was in my 20s and no one around me cares whether I do or don't. I, on the other hand, love to experiment with different palettes and looks, love to do my friends' make up, love wearing big bold looks in the daytime.

Love make up.

Daily, going to work, I just wear a light mineral foundation and mascara. If I am going somewhere I do full on eye shadow and liner.

I voted yes on pressure because, as someone relatively new to using makeup, I know that there is a definite change in attitude that people have towards me. Not that I particularly care what they think, but I can't deny that the pressure is there.

I get much better treatment by others when I wear cosmetics. Sad but true. I think you are more likely to get away without it when you are young/in college, but the older you go or further up the professional ladder (assuming that ladder is in a traditional setting like offices and business-wear), it is assumed you will. It is part of the uniform.

I hate wearing make-up. Foundation sometimes causes me to break out and mascara leaves my lashes clumped and lipstick stains my lips for days afterwords.

The only time I wear make-up is to dress up for an event. I only feel pressured to wear make-up for a large formal gathering or when I am leading a workshop.

I've never been sure how to do make-up, honestly. I'm not good at it! For everyday wear, just chap stick or lip gloss. And for special occasions I wear mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow, and lip loss.

It depends on who I'm around. At school, I don't feel pressured to wear make up, but at home I do. My mom has complained many times that I don't wear make up often enough.

I never feel pressured to wear cosmetics. It all depends on my mood. I tend to put on a little blush, some eyeshadow, a little perfume and mascara when I am feeling in the mood. Rarely lipgloss cause my long hair always gets stuck in it. And that annoys me lol

Makeup is actually required for me at work. I will get sent home or have to fix it if my makeup is not applied well. Days where I don't work I wear makeup about 50% of the time. I do think people treat me better when I am wearing makeup though. I think it makes me feel more confident

I wear foundation, pressed powder, mascara, and eyeliner every day, unless I am not going anywhere. I don't feel pressured to wear makeup. My grandma is always yelling at me that I am too pale and need to wear blush, but I don't listen.

I almost never leave the house without some sort of light makeup, but I've never felt pressured. It just seems to be a personal preference for me.

What is interesting to me is, at the women's university I attend, most middle class women will not wear any makeup unless they're going out on the town, but the high class women wear mascara and lipstick and all of that everyday. I wonder if they feel pressured into it, or if it's just more comfortable for them? I hardly ever wear makeup, but when I do it tends to get outrageous quickly :p

When I was younger I would not step put of the house with out my face on, now that I work at home I find that I can go for days without putting the face on especially since I only go out a few times a week. The BF has gotten used to it and never asks me to put anything on, I love being able to be that comfortable with a guy.

I almost never wear any makeup. I do like wearing it, and if the fancy strikes, I'll make myself up, but in general, I slather on the moisturizer and chapstick and head out the door! I'm fairly low maintenance when I am not trying to be super-femme. But when I'm feeling more girly and wanting to make myself up: tinted moisturizer/foundation , powder, full eye makeup, blush, and lipstick.

I wear makeup about 3 days a week on average. I don't feel pressured to wear it, but I do enjoy getting fixed up, wearing makeup and feeling girly.

I actually like applying and wearing makeup, and it does make me feel more confident when I'm wearing it. I'm pretty girly, and I love shopping at Sephora. The downside is that, especially in the summer, makeup on my face makes me break out, so I wear it infrequently (I don't work, so that helps). I hate it, because I also have discoloration on my face from past acne breakouts, and I feel really self conscious about it. But if I cover it with more makeup, I break out more...it's a lovely cycle.

Not a woman, but I have to say I find it upsetting as hell when women feel the need to wear makeup regularly. I much prefer the natural look.

I don't necessarily feel pressured to wear makeup, but most all of my female friends do their makeup before leaving the house. When I was leaving the house to go to work every day I'd do my eyeliner and maybe some eyeshadow, but delivering car parts didn't call for anything fancy, so it'd be that and my chapstick. Before that when I was working at Steve & Barry's I'd try to do the makeup thing, but all I'd consistently do was the eye makeup. At this point I almost feel like I waited too long and all my friends will think I'm weird for suddenly wearing makeup, lol. However I will continue to try and perfect the Rockabilly look, and once I have a hair style down, I'll wear everything out of the house.
