Wake Up Mississippi. Have you heard about this amendment?

Contributor: wrecklesswords wrecklesswords
Has anyone heard about this? I just read about it on a friend's LJ entry and I was quite frankly appalled.

And before anyone jumps down my throat, no I am not trying to start a debate over abortion. What I am trying to do is show you that this would also outlaw birth control. Please put aside your feelings on abortion and read what this amendment could mean for women's health, not just for the health of a fetus.

Sooo...it would be illegal to have a miscarriage? Perhaps one of the dumbest things I have ever read. Thanks, Mississippi. You make Lousiana look better.

Thank you for that. It is very helpful.

And yes, in a way, it would make it illegal to have a miscarriage. Because, you know, obviously having a miscarriage is TOTALLY up to the mother, right?

Yea that is bull shit! Also since the way birth control works. By thinning the uterine wall, making it so fertilized eggs can not attach, so you miscarry come period time. That is messed up. Really this shit is just fucked. This amendment did not cover all the bases and leaves it wide open for all women to go down.

I hope this does not happen in Mississippi! Or anywhere.

I hope it doesn't happen either. This is most definitely a War Against Women, as I read somewhere in there. It's basically stating that the fetus, or even egg, has more rights than the woman. This is several steps backwards for women's rights.

Indeed.

It's too extreme. and it's scary.

It's terrifying, and it would be a death sentence for me. I can't physically carry a pregnancy to term.

Not to mention that it turns all women into walking incubators and punishes women who miscarry (haven't those who wanted their baby and miscarried suffered enough?)

As a female living in Mississippi who started a thread about this some time ago, and as someone who is INSANELY ENRAGED that anyone would try to force this idiotic "amendment" on women, I just want to say that this thing wouldn't outlaw in vitro fertilization, and wouldn't outlaw most forms of hormonal contraceptives. (The morning after pill would be banned)

It would, however, make it illegal to abort fetuses conceived through incest or rape, or, more disturbingly, incestual rape....holy hell.

It's sad that people have to be 18 to vote against this, since it would affect so many people under 18.

You can bet my husband and I will be voting "THE HELL NO" against this come November 8th.
