Does anyone else suffer from vaginismus? A tightening of the outer muscles causing sex to be painful, difficult or impossible? I recently realized that there is no doubt I have it. Wondering if anyone has tips or certain toys that have helped!

I had it and what helped me were things like progressive relaxation and going slow and a lot of self talk to break the cycle of pain. I didnt use any toys, but I had a helpful partner. Best of luck!

Thank you! How long did it take you to overcome it and did you get any help from a gyno or sex therapist at all? I've only slept with this one guy and he happens to be huge which is not helping the situation haha

It took me a few months and I worked through it with the help of resources online for people with it. They had great reassurances that it wasn't my fault my body was doing its own thing (which helped ease my frustrations some on its own). Its impossible to get into a gyno here without appointments months and months in advance and we have no sex therapists (small town!) I have heard dilators can help ease you up to a bigger size. My partner at the time wasn't big at all so fingers were all I needed to help there. Mine was brought on by a specific trauma and realizing the cause of it helped some. I couldnt even imagine not knowing the source of such pain. /rambling

I have endometriosis and it causes symptoms like vagismus sometimes. They suck. I haven't been 'diagnosed' with vagismus though. I use extra lube and practicing a stretching technique my doctor taught me. That helps some.

My gynecologists were the ones who made me aware that I had symptoms and told me where I could get help. They recommended link and the dilator set that is sold there. But I already had several dildos and a similar vibrator, so I just started using them more regularly. The Betty's Barbell (a weighted Kegel exerciser) seemed to be especially helpful, along with deep breathing and pelvic relaxation exercises.
Masturbating alone was really important at first, because I had to get used to my own body's responses without having to worry about a partner's response or possible criticism. It didn't take long to work through though.
It looks like it has been a few weeks since your initial post. I hope things are going well for you.
