Also yes to the peeing before and after sex (or masturbation). Less baths seems to help too.
When I was younger I got them and now I have them again. I got my first one at three years old. Something is wrong with my plumbing, and I had surgery to repair the problem when I was in my early 20s. I was fine, except for when I was pregnant (the bladder relaxes and often doesn't empty properly) but in the last few years, since perimenopause started, I am getting them all the time again. At least I'm not bleeding and screaming in pain like years ago.
In fact, I'm on medication for it now. I do EVERYTHING to "prevent" them, we both wash before sex, including brushing teeth, I pee before and after sex (I'll even take a break during a marathon to go and pee) I only wear cotton underwear, I drink cranberry juice and take cranberry capsules, I take acidopilus, I drink TONS of water every day. I do everything they tell you to avoid them and I still get them on the average of one a month. However, I do take a lot of baths, I don't know of that makes a difference as I switched to showers years ago when I started getting them when I was a teenager and first became sexually active and got them all the time and my bathing regimen made no difference at all.
For me, the surgery helped for years. (I had a meatotomy, a urethral stretching, polyps were removed from my urethra and bladder and my Bartholin glands were removed.) For some reason the issue returned years later.
I wish I had an answer. Of course, DO all the things you are supposed to avoid them, but please always see a doctor when you think you are getting one. I now have mild kidney issues (more "great" news from my latest blood work) most likely due to years of these damn things. So, please take care of each one with antibiotics ASAP when you get symptoms.
