I assume you don't ever want to have kids? Ever?

yes. if i decide to have them i will adopt. overpopulation is too serious for me to ignore.

i'm sure the experience of conceiving and bearing and raising one's own offspring is moving, deeply, and may complete some sense of what being human is all about - after all, our main purpose in life is to breed, at the root of it.

still, i feel it's my duty to not reproduce, as we are so overpopulated. i feel it would be selfish for me to bring into the world what is already here: a child in need of care.

I have had a tubal. Thoroughly research this. When I was in nursing school we were discussing this and I found out that a high percentage of women have to get a hysterectomy within 5 years of having this. It didn't happen to me but I may have thought about it more if the doc had actually given me the statistics. Find out how the doc does it. Mine went through the belly button(only had 2 stitches after) Wasn't a biggie after the first couple of days. I felt fine the entire time and was taking care of the little ones the whole time. They can cut the tubes, tie them or burn them. Some docs do all three. Just know that it is possible, unlikely for most women, but they can grow back. Any other questions that I didn't already answer, let me know.

My Aunt had this done and she still got pregnant afterwards. Here is some information about it.

I haven't had a tubal but I have had Essure (at 21, my current age). I've looked around at other sterilization options, and figured that's the best choice for myself due to the short healing time and the non-surgical procedure, it does take 3-6 months for scar tissue to block the fallopian tubes though.
(The horror stories about Essure are from those who've had children(and apparently regret getting fixed), nothing too bad for the ones who haven't used their uterus, just an expelled coil at times.)

As for a tubal, I've heard it takes ~2 weeks to properly heal up, but make sure the doctor's not just cutting and tying the tubes, cauterization helps the healing process and prevents accidental regrowth and pregnancy.

wow.

from the looks of it, an IUD has lower risk of pregnancy than that surgery even. guess i'll stick all this bleeding/cramps/pain out... sigh.

thanks for sharing, sweetface.

How long it takes to heal depends on how the doctor does it. Mine was through my belly button so it didn't take long at all.. Yes I had to take it easy but I didn't have to really restrict myself.

The best advice I can give you is to ask a medical doctor. they would be the ones to really tell you all the information that you need. also be sure to review everyones stories online.

Sorry - I didn't see this until now.

I had my tubes tied almost a year ago (10/20 will be the day). My surgery took longer than normal to recover from because I got an infection (which had encapsulated, so we didn't know I had an infection); I was told that the doctor was in a hurry to get through it - he probably had a 2 o'clock tee-time when I came in at 12:30.

It's been okay since then. I've had a couple of trysts and have just started a relationship and nothing related to pregnancy yet. I had mine done through public health, which meant that as long as I was over 21 and had been educated on the matter (which they take care of) it gets done, and it doesn't matter if you've have children or not.
