Tearing during delivering baby

Contributor: Jennifer87 Jennifer87
I have had 2 babies and first one I tore and he was only 7 lbs and his head was kinda small but with my second baby I didn't even tare at all and he was 8 lbs with a 14" head. And I think it is strange about that but I later realized that my ob this time massaged my vaginal walls and helped me stretch easier because she hates cutting women.
So my question is how many women tore and with how many babies?

While I can't speak from personal experience, the position you're in when you give birth has a LOT to do with tearing.
Women weren't actually meant to give birth on their backs, it's easier to squat, sit, or even stand. Laying on your back closes your pelvic area quite a bit and forces you to work against gravity.

Obviously it's still possible to give birth on your back and many women do, but it increases the risk of tearing and other things like needing a c-section, and often makes labor take longer.

Episiotomies (cutting) are becoming more rare as some doctors have started to believe it's better to tear than to be cut, as far as healing goes.

I've had two children. With the first I stretched to the point of almost tearing, but not quite. They gave me a few stitches. With my second, I was with a midwife and she encouraged massage and placed a warm cloth on the spot that was likely to tear right before I give birth. No tearing or extreme stretching that time.
