Just curious how many women actually do self breast exams. They are extremely important, but I know a lot of women do not do them.

I try to, but I admit it's difficult! Breasts are full of regular, non-cancerous lumpy stuff...glands, ducts, etc, so they always feel lumpy to me! I try to feel for changes between OB/GYN appts, but I never know if I'm doing a good job. Ah well, trying is better than nothing I guess!
Best to be good about keeping that annual appointment with a real doctor.

Yes I do but my husband does them for me too!

I regularly feel them deeply but not as the guidelines suggest very often. I do get annual mammograms too.

yes, and i got really upset when the media was trying to say that they weren't important. (anybody remember that?)
i have found several lumps on my own and have had to have biopsies. have two more scheduled right now.
if you have fibrocystic breasts or such i think it's easier to notice changes on your own then a doctor.

most concerning lumps will have more of a border to them then the regular lumpiness in my experience. i have fibrocystic breasts that are dense and lumpy to the point of mammograms not being effective. i've been able to detect lumps on my own, and then they verify them with ultrasound.

I try to, but have a hard time remembering to do them. I haven't even had my first mammogram yet, and I'm 44. I really need to get one done soon.

I do but not as often as I should.

Definitely!! I do mine weekly so I am familiar with the shape and can identify problems.

I do them. I didn't learn how to do it correctly until recently when I had a lump scare that turned out to be a cyst. Now I check them throughly, best after a shower wale looking in the mirror so you can see any changes and the water helps to make it easier.

My Dr. recommended to do it once a month when I start my period pills (mine are a different color for the the week that I am menstruating) so I just wait until I take the different colored and do an exam after the shower.

that makes no sense to me because that time of month mine are denser and more tender. it would be more difficult for me to distinguish hormonal changes from any new actual lumps.

12/10/2012
Not as much as I should.
12/11/2012
I don't. Maybe I should learn how.
