I found this article and wanted to share it with the Community. This is truly amazing!

Dr. Marci Bowers, a doctor in Colorado, is performing reconstructive surgery on women who have been victims of female circumcision. Bowers underwent gender reassignment surgery at age 40, and says she empathizes with her FGM patients and wanted to help them feel "whole." The procedure reconstructs the clitoris and improves sensation! I didn't know this was even possible--I am so glad that it is!

Good for her! More doctors should make this their priority. The damage done by FGM mutilation is truly obscene, and more work needs to be done not just to PREVENT this perversion in human behavior, but to correct the damage done.

I hate the excuse, "It's part of the 'culture' so it isn't our business." Some things are just WRONG, and genital mutilation is one of them. It is ONLY DONE to prevent female sexual pleasure, it's sick, the societies who condone it are sick, the people who condone it are sick and it NEEDS to stop!

It is more hateful than rape, and there is no excuse to EVER do this to a woman's body.

I wish more doctors would do what Dr. Marci is doing (I've seen her on television, as a transgender advocate and surgeon) but it won't happen until American and Europan medical schools start teaching how to remedy it.

I also think that attacking a country for OIL is unjustified. Yet it is done all the time. WHY has a country never been questioned, and censured by the USA or Europe for THIS Human Rights issue?

P*Gell the reason more physicians aren't doing the surgery is because the techniques have only been recently developed. Only a handful of doctors have been able to study the techniques.

I think its wonderful that a way to reconstruct the damage has been developed. Now if only we can change the viewpoint of many of these traditional cultures to stop this practice.

That is phenomenal! I know it can't replace what was mutilated but at least it's better than being scarred for life.
