I've taken birth control for years now, to regulate my period. I heard that the longer you take it, the worse off you could be getting pregnant when you do decide to stop. So I decided to just stop taking it, and it's been over a month and I haven't started my period. (I'm a lesbian. I haven't had sex with a man, so I know I'm not pregnant.) Is this just my body getting back to normal or..? Should I be worried?

What I've generally hard is that your body takes 3 months to acclimate to BC and about the same to stop. However, I know for sure that some methods can take even longer -- the depo shot comes to mind. So I personally wouldn't be worried that you've yet to get your period but I would talk to your doctor after three months.

When I went off The Pill it took me 93 days to get a period. Then it took years before I was regular, or even a little regular. I was irregular when I started the Pill (I was 17 and hadn't regulated yet) and I didn't get regular until after I had a few kids.

I'm on depo and was told that it can stay in your system for up to a year

Ahhh this sucks D: the only reason I was on birth control was to regulate my irregular and heavy periods.

I wouldn't worry too much, your body is just confused. I've been off the pill for almost two years now and my period is still not completely regulated yet. If I remember right, it took at least 3 months to get a regular (not just spotty days) period.

Your body will adjust when it is ready. If you've been on it for years, it could take a while to go back to normal.
