Question about vaginal itching

Contributor: hyacinthgirl hyacinthgirl
If this persists for a few more days, I'm going to follow up with a doctor, but I think I might have a mild yeast infection. I just got off a course of antibiotics, and though I ate yogurt every day during the course, I've had some mild to moderate vaginal itching (concentrated from the clitoris to the top of the outer labia) over the last few days. There is no change in vaginal discharge - color, smell, or consistency. It feels kind of like I have fresh razor burn, but I have not shaved. I'm a little scared, because I just had my first sexual encounter with my second ever partner the first week of October, and he did not use a dental dam when performing oral sex on me. But... it seems like the itching would have started earlier and be more widespread if that was it. Also, I examined myself with a mirror, and everything looked normal. I just itch.

Or maybe I should switch to a softer toilet paper?

I would look at if you have eaten any different foods or used any different soaps ect.
Usually vaginal infections don't itch that far away from the opening but again, everyone is different down there! I would go to the doctor, but it sounds more like a mild allergic reaction than an infection. STI's can take anywhere from two weeks to several months to manifest themselves, so there really is no way to tell from how recent your encounter is. Don't worry yourself sick about it, just get yourself checked out!

I haven't used any different soap (I only use Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap), though I've been using mostly the Tea Tree for the last month, and I'm thinking I should go back to the Baby Mild for washing around my vulva.

On closer inspection, I'm starting to wonder about the toilet paper thing - everything looks perfectly normal, except some slightly raw-looking redness right where my outer labia come together. I was drinking an awful lot of water while I was on the antibiotics, and usually going to the bathroom at work, where they have the one-ply sandpaper. It does kind of feel like I scratched myself somehow...

I also don't know if it would be an STI, since his mouth was clean (no sores of any description, had recently brushed his teeth, had not eaten since brushing). I just worry a lot. I have a bit of a tendency toward folliculitis, and a tendency to assume the worst, so every time I'd get an inflamed follicle, I'd start worrying about herpes.

Sound like it could be yeast. You don't always have to have discharge to have a yeast infection, it does not have to be internal, it can occur just on the vulva sometimes. I recommend taking a warm bath with some baking soda in it. It relieves the itching.

This or apple cider vinegar in a bath. And make yourself some garlic tea for good measure.

It happens to me sometimes where I have the sensation like I have little cuts on my labia. It goes away eventually. I never went to the doctor about it though, so I have nothing helpful to add except to commiserate with you.
