ParaGaurd Birth Control

Contributor: GoneBabyGone GoneBabyGone
I've been on hormonal birth Controls since I was about 17. I've tried Ortho evera, lo ovral, Norinyl, Yasmin, Lovra, and Seasonale. Everything I've tried I've had some bad side effects. They all made my libido drop. Yasmin gave me mood swings tending toward anger. Seasonale has made me have no sex drive at all, bad insomnia and depression.

I've talked to my doctor and she recommended a non hormonal form of birth control. The ParaGuard copper IUD.

I was wondering if anyone has had similar problem with hormonal birth controls and if anyone has used ParaGaurd or some other non-hormonal birth control?

my wife uses the paraguard IUD. it has worked pretty good. Her periods are not as regular as before, but that has been the only problem so far, in 5 years.

I have only tried the Depo shot and birth control pills, the pills did not work for me. I have been on the Depo for a long time. I considered the ParaGuard but I don't want to keep switching birth control. I am content with that I have now.

Thanks. I was left without options on changing most of the time. The seasonale has been the worst side effects I've had yet and I'm tired of feeling crazy. I really want to do the ParaGuard. I've been of pills for a week and my sex drive is already coming back.

I've heard people have problems with their periods and cramping on the ParaGuard though.

I had blood clots in my eyes from nuvaring. Puked every single day for 3 kinds of birth control pills. Now, my Dr. is recommending Mirena, but 5 years is a long time to commit!

Hormonal BC spiked my blood pressure up to scary levels (from a low starting point at that) after five years of having no problems with it. I guess my body had had enough =P. In any case I started getting these crazy bad headaches and finally got switched over to paraguard. Like just got the thing in Thursday. Insertion was a bitch for me, but that is apparently not everyone's experience (although my OB-gyn said it was more common for women with back-tilted utereses [uteri?]). In any case it's pretty crazy the diff. between this and the pill. My headaches went away, and my sex drive came back full force in spite of being in some bad post-insertion pain. Awesome.

I'm not sure if I could be comfortable going with this option unless I was certain I'd want to go that long without having children. Otherwise, I would consider it.
