And it bothers her. Does anyone else have this?

I'll sometimes have cramps up to 2 days before my period. It's normal. It sucks, but it's normal.

If this is a recent development of if the cramps are pretty bad (compared to her normal) then it doesn't hurt to get checked out

I sometimes have cramps for up to a week before my period, and sometimes when I ovulate (IF I ovulate.) I take Motrin and if that doesn't work, I take Aleve. I find the Aleve stronger, but it makes me sleepy.

New or increased pain should, as Mwar mentioned, be taken to her GYN.

She could be cramping after or before her period, I do sometimes and every now and then it will start a week before my period, or she may not be using the bathroom (#2) very well. If not then get her some laxatives.
If none of those are the case, then yeah, take her to get looked at.

That used to happen to me. Then I changed my birth control pills to something that stops me from ovulating. She could be experiencing ovulation pain and not period cramps.

There's also a small possibility that it's a cyst, but I doubt it. If it's overly painful, I would tell her to talk to a doctor about it. She could get pain pills or a birth control pill that would stop her from ovulating. It helped me out a lot when I changed!
