Missed 3 days of pills, help!

Contributor: Stephanie Majors Stephanie Majors
I missed three days of my birth control pill and I don't know what to do. I missed one in the 2nd week and 2 in the last (3rd) week. I took one pill because I didn't know what to do and now I've been bleeding like I'm having my period but it is a few days early, why? I'm confused!

You should probably call your doctor to ask their advice, but what I would do is wait until your period is over, and start a fresh pack of pills.

If you take the pills out of sequence, you can "start early". Call your doctor and get your shit straight.

This was my thought. But I would call to be sure

You should prolly let your period run it's course and then start your new pack when you're supposed to. And of course, you shouldn't have unprotected sex for 10 days (or if you're paranoid, the next month)

Check the instructions in the thick manual that comes with your pills - they all do before calling your doctor.

If I remember well, when you skip a day, you take two pills the next day. When you skip two days in a row, you could have to take two pills two days in a row. However, as I said, I'm really not sure about this, and this is why I asked you to check the instructions.

I've missed random days when I used to take the pill and I never found the pill to be less effective as I'd take the missed pill as soon as I noticed. With two days in a row, I'd use a second type of protection. But like Ruyson said, since it's the end of your month, put the pack aside and wait to start a new month, and use a few condoms.

Ideally, if you have a habit of forgetting your pills, your doctor can help you find another contraceptive, because you are not meant to take a double dose once in a while.

I miss pretty often. Just take them as normal, and you'll be fine. It might depend on how long you've been on the pill though. I've been on for 8 years straight, so I do have somewhat of a build up in my system, so i don't worry.
You can only get pregnant on the days you're ovulating, and all females ovulate the days after the period. So even if you missed, you can't get prego unless you're ovulating! But do remember, that it takes sperm a full 7 days or more to reach their spot, and die. So if you have sex about 4 days before you ovulate, you could still get prego from those same sperm!

yep i agree with cherry. and if you have had sex go to your doc or planned parenthood and get the morning after pill within 48 hours of sex and it will kill the sperm and thicken your secrections around your overies making it difficult for sperm to get in.

I've been on it for 6 years so I've never had a problem with the effectiveness either. Also he doesn't cum inside me so I'm not too concerned about the sperm getting there.

The pharmacist said to take one pill everyday like normal until my last day of the pack and then start a new pack right away instead of having a period in between. But my period already started early since I missed those days.
