I started using softcups a few weeks ago. I really like them because for me they really are so comfortable. Most days I leave it in 10 hrs and its still not full. As long as you hook under it and pull out flat against the floor you won't get any spills. I don't get leakage but I wear carefree liners anyways just in case. I'm looking into getting a Lunette soon and a Feurcup when I go to Paris this summer.
Menstrual cups: Yay or Nay?

Everyone is using DivaCups! Maybe I should try them? Only thing is I hear they aren't firm and can move and unseal easily. Plus the ridges on the body looks uncomfortable.

As far as silicone lube goes, I haven't actually thought about that. I don't really have sexy times during that time of the month, so it's never come up. I'll patch-test my DivaCup with some different lubes for you to see if it would matter less

I'm kind of curious about it, I've heard good reviews about the DivaCup and I'd definitely love to save the money/environmental issues with disposable pads and tampons.

That's good to know for anyone else that will be using the item. Even though I will not use this type of item, the fact that it doesn't react to silicone lubes is a plus.

Love my DivaCup. You'd need a size 2. Start checking babysteals.com. They have them occasionally and will probably have them before you get your period back.

I've been using a DivaCup for about a year now, and am NEVER going back to pads/tampons. I only have to change it twice a day, and I save so much money! They last 8 to 10 years, so it's definitely a great investment. I don't feel it when it's in, and sometimes forget I'm even on my period. haha Once you get past the "ickyness" of seeing your own menstrual fluid, it's no dig deal at all. In fact, I think it allows you to be more in touch with your body. It's keeps tons of waste out of landfills too!

I've seen tons of people raving about menstrual cups but I've been apprehensive to try one as I'm not really sure HOW the blood stays in there without leaking. It kind of confuses me.

You can learn lots and lots about cups at this site, the menstrual cups livejournal.
I wanted to use it, but I have such a sensitive G-spot that I can feel even the slimmest tampons inside me. I couldn't get used to the cup, and had a hard time getting it in and out. So I gave up. I think it's a wonderful idea though. Wish it worked for me.
(Actually, if I'm getting menstruation related wishes, I wish my perimenopause would hurry up and turn into menopause and be done. )

mooncup. co. uk is the mooncup site
they will have size charts on their website.
one size is for women who've never had children, one is for those who have. different companies do sizing differently though.

I tried it a few times, it was a waste of money for me because it hurt twenty times as worse as a tampon, and the pain/discomfort never subsided over time. I love the concept behind it, and love that other women love it, but it's unfortunately not for me.

i cut my stem off as most women do. there's no need for it really. if you 'bear down' with your PC muscles, as if you're peeing, you can grib the bottom of the cup, pull the top lip of it forward to break the seal, and pull it out upright.

i do forget more often with this in than with tampons, but unlike tampons you're MUCH less likely to leak if you forget and you'll certainly n ot get TSS from leaving the cup in too long. it can cause bacterial infections (i got BV once for not emptying mine out every day... my period is really light on the 3rd day and i'd just leave it in.)

A) holds much more than a tampon and
B) has tiny holes around the rim of the cup so that it leaks one drop of blood at a time, and not in a flood like tampons do.

Forgot to mention I was using Diva Cup. I was so excited for it because it came with such a cute little pouch and it's own cleanser. I would recommend it if it's available to you at a nearby health market.

i'm confused by this... it seems you've got menstrual cups confused with contraceptives. they're a hygiene method for your period, not meant to prevent pregnancy.

you can either leave it in or take it out for sex... certain positions are uncomfortable if your man rubs against your cervix, or has a big cock. for silicone lube, i would take it out. of course, you can always do a silicone lube test on the cup first. or simply use waterbased lube.

silicone lube only harms silicone toys/cups that are cured with tin i believe. those products cured with platinum are not affected by it...where's Starkiller87 when you need her expertise?

I was going to say the same thing! My DivaCup has only leaked once, and it was because I didn't empty it close enough to when I went to bed. But it only leaked tiny drops because of the little holes around the rim.

If you don't make a proper seal, it will leak of course, but if it's in properly then leakage probably won't be a huge deal.

I really want to try a menstural cup but I'm still looking into what kind to get. They seems so easy to me.
01/10/2012
I use a diva cup and love it. I don't need any lube at all to insert it and I always wash it well. I have to wear two super tampons if I'm not using the cup!
It is also cheaper to use and environmentally friendly.

I ordered my fleurcup from france thru a friend. Can't wait to get it. I went ahead and got a meluna medium and they sent a large too! Two cups for $28 usd including shipping is awesome. I got the hange of the seal but it was not easy. I can't wait to try my fleurcup. It looks like a tulip or something
01/13/2012
I'm not sure but I think you can get both meluna, lunette and fleurcup in the US now. I just googled the sites and they all ship here. I just can't find a fleurcup approved seller that's sales them so you have to order directly thru their site. If you want any other cups I know that zapas and femine wear sales lunette, diva and meluna. From what I have read lunette small and fleucup small are the.best for woman who have shallow or narrow vaginas. They have deep cups so they hold as much as a diva cup large but are more comfortable. My meluna medium is a great size but it doesn't do well with heavier days. The large handles it well but it is more known when worn.

no way.

I use the DivaCup and reviewed it a few years ago. Still using it.
01/13/2012
I don't think I would ever try them. It's just not my kind of thing.
01/13/2012
I've had the DivaCup since August, and I love it! It took a few tries to master the insertion, but now it's a piece of cake. The only time I've had a leakage problem was my last cycle, which was freakishly heavy. I'm not saying that someone with a heavy flow couldn't use the cup; I was just caught by surprise because I'm used to only emptying it once a day (which is awesome compared to using 3 or more tampons/day). It doesn't slip around or come loose or anything. Insertion is as simple as folding the cup, sticking it in, giving it a little twist to seal and pushing it further in. With a little practice, you can tell when it's not quite right.
Honestly, my favorite part about is that I just feel cleaner. It seemed that no matter how diligent I was about changing tampons regularly, I just never felt very fresh during my period and I often ended up wearing panty liners anyway. Sure, emptying out the DivaCup the first few times had me in a state of "ewwwww," but something happened: my opinion of my period changed. It's really not such a freakish experience.
My green side also digs not creating so much trash anymore.
Someone already posted the LiveJournal link, which was THE most helpful place on the net. I chose a DivaCup after following the size charts on there. I bought mine from Amazon.com, which was selling it for $10 than my local health goods store.
