I had a breast cancer scare at 17 or 18 (found a lump when I was doing my monthly self-check) and had to get a mammogram.
Honestly? It was nothing. It's a little painful from the squish, but it's only for a minute.

my mom has tiny boobs and she would always complain about how they would squish her nothingness. but it shouldn't hurt the next day or anything

does anyone know if you need to remove nipple piercings when you get a mammogram?

Good luck, Angel. It only takes a few minutes and it's over. No worries. At our age, they just do "baseline checks" too see what our breasts look like in a normal state. (I say, as I have yet to have mine done. HCPs are the worst people when it comes to having health checks done. But, I should do it soon.)

Sunshine, hon, yes, you have to remove all piercings in or around your breast as they could not only interfere with the ability to read the mammo, but it would really hurt when they use the press plates if you had a piercing in your nipple.

You should probably also remove them when you do your monthly home exam. You hand will move more easily and you won't mistake any bits of jewelry for something it is not. Do you need a link to instructions for self exam? It only takes a few minutes every month a few days after your period ends. Most breast cancers and lumps are actually caught by women doing exams themselves. It's a good skill to learn, it is fast and it puts your mind at ease. I've been doing them since I was about 18.

I have yet to have one(due to my age mostly). About a year and a half ago I went to my GP because I had a huge lump. It was so sore, and sure enough she felt it also. She wanted me to wait and come back after my period(which was the next week.) I did and sure enough it was gone. I guess sometimes this happens. I was just glad that my breasts were okay. It is really important to check them regularly, now I know to wait til after my period, if it is coming soon before going to the DR.

So glad it went down! You are right. Monthly self checks are so important. I always do mine in the shower after my period.
