Question for IUD Users?

Has any IUD user experianced weight gain with theirs? I am on the Mirena, got it in October 2008 after having my daughter. I breastfed her up untill she was 16 months old, so I never had a period, at all since I got pregnant with her. I lost all my pregnancy weight when I was about 2 months PP..

Ever since then its been this slow climb up the scale again. No difference in eating habits (except I'm trying to stop the soda habit).

I was told by some people that mirena cannot cause weight gain.. Then you have others that say that it does, because anything that stops a period causes weight gain...

I really really want to lose this weight. But I like the no worries about pregnancy/periods or anything too.

I'm not on an IUD and I can't seem to find a direct answer either way. Which leads me to believe they didn't study it enough for an answer. However, IUD's contain hormones. A change in your hormone levels can cause weight gain and loss. So, it would make sense that you could lose or gain weight with any hormonal birth control.

I didn't gain weight on Mirena and it stopped my period. I did have horrible cramping from it and had to have it removed. I'm now on Implanon which also stops my period and hasn't caused weight gain. So I'm not sure there's any correlation between no period and weight gain.

I think it has more to do with how your body reacts to hormones than with a specific type of birth control. I have had mirena for 2 years now, the first year I lost a bunch of weight, the second I gained it all back, its was definitely not due to the mirena, but rather personal eating and exercise habits.
