Is there a correlation between clitoris size and sensitivity?

Lying in bed last night, I wondered if the size of a woman's clitoris weighed in on her ability to handle certain intensities of vibrations or stimulation.

For example, would a woman with a larger, more prominent clitoris be more sensitive to the touch and therefore, be more prone to purchase toys with low to average vibrations because she is more sensitive? Will she orgasm faster than a woman with a small clitoris, who may need the strongest vibrations she can find because her clitoris is harder to stimulate?

Mine is small and completely hidden by my clitoral hood, but it works. I do find that I need to purchase toys that put me in the "power queen" category and that I don't cum often from manual stimulation, and I never cum from oral stimulation.

So, completely anonymous, how large is your clitoris? Do you think it's size affects its sensitivity or not? Feel free to add any other comments you are comfortable with sharing.

Doesn't the clitoris have roughly the same number of nerve endings no matter the size (roughly the same as the glans penis as well)? If so, it would seem that the sensitivity would be roughly similar (barring psychological variances), and the difference would be how easily the clitoris could be stimulated.

See, when I'm really horny, mine doesn't get that enlarged. It may turn red a bit, but I don't notice a huge difference.

I just read today that there isn't any correlation between the size and sensitivity - I suppose that regardless of the size, there are still like 8,000 nerve endings in it!

I guess everybody is different. Mine gets about 4 times larger when I'm horny. I can barely find it when I'm not turned on, (the hood seems to hide it then) and it goes to "You can't ignore me!" size when I get aroused.

I don't think the size would affect sensitivity. Larger, more prominent clits might be easier to stimulate though. Mine's small and it also doesn't get larger when I'm aroused. I barely have a hood, I wonder if that has any effect on sensitivity?

Actually it's thought that it's not the size of the clit, but where it's located that can amp sexual sensation. Clits closer to the urethra and vaginal opening are said to be more sensitive, while those further away, or more near the bellybutton are slightly less sensitive. The clitoris is actually shaped like a wishbone that connects to nerves in the urethra...your clit isn't just a bump; it's a large structure!

I read a book about Marie Bonaparte (related to Napoleon) who was so frustrated with her lack of clitoral sensation that he surgically had it moved closer to her urethra a few times. She had a high libido but little satisfaction.

Read "Bonk" by Mary Roach. It's fascinating.

Blinker - thanks! Very few people seem to know about the wishbone shape of the clitoris. Maybe that will change - even Wikipedia has a great illustration and description.

My clitoris is extremely tiny (about the size of a rice grain -- I'm not kidding). Have any of you ever heard of such a small clit? I sometimes wonder if I'm abnormal.

Plus, it is completely hooded, much to my frustration. I've always thought it would be much easier to stimulate it if it was larger. I become numb quickly from vibrations and can't handle extremely strong vibes directly (such as the Hitachi), but I do deeply crave strong pressure and rubbing. I suppose it takes a lot of pressure to reach that little thing through all its protective folds! When touched directly (by pulling back the sheath), it is PAINFULLY sensitive. I suppose it is that sensitive because it is so extremely well protected, being that tiny. But I don't like it touched at all under its sheath. I just can't take it.

And it does not engorge when aroused either.

I doubt anyone can tolerate stimulation directly on the unhooded clitoris. I certainly can't.

My clitoris is pretty large. Not like Buck Angel, but definitely much bigger than average. And it gets even bigger with stimulation, like P'Gell. But frustratingly shrinks in moments before orgasm, when you want to stimulate it most.

Interesting. I've always been jealous of those with larger, more accessible clits 'cause I thought they must have a much easier time stimulating themselves. What seems to work for the huge majority of other women feels nice to me, but never gets me off.

I can't help but wonder whether clit size has anything to do with how the Eroscillator and the SaSi would work for you. I would have thought a larger clit would be more easily stimulated by those toys (since the toys can actually reach the clit more easily).

Its funny that you say that. In my review of the Eroscillator I speculate on why it isn't effective for me. One of my theories is that the attachment heads only move back and forth so much and maybe a larger clitoris like mine needs a wider back and forth movement.

Oddly enough, I can take direct, under the hood stimulation. I have the Classic "Clit O Steel." I couldn't when I was younger and a LOT more sensitive.

Mine also, (according to My Man, because this doesn't seem to happen when I'm handing to myself) kind of "hides" when I get close to climax. Most women's do. Mine can still be found, but it pulls up under the hood. It isn't actually shrinking, but pulling up, similarly to how a man's testes pull up right before orgasm.

Hmm. I guess I don't know much about my clit. I mean, I know I need tons of strong vibration, like the Hitachi kind, to orgasm. But I never really noticed what my clit looks like, how big it is, etc. I think I'll do some investigating!

There's a site somewhere with lots of pictures of them you can use for comparison to see where you fall in the spectrum. I noticed as a child that I was bigger than other girls. I never had just a slit. It sticks out. And guys have told me its big.

I'm thinking my son gets his big penis from me.

Do you have a link to the site? I'm wondering if I am completely out of the range of what is considered normal to be so small. Mine is smaller than a green pea. Maybe the size of the teensiest tiniest baby green pea. I'd never thought about the size of it though until recently. And only because I am trying to better predict which toys would work well for me.

And I bet you're right: your son probably did get his big penis from you!

Mine is about corn kernel sized. When totally asleep, nothing shows. And when it starts waking up, it may peek out a little. I can pull the skin back with no discomfort. When engorged, the clit gets only a little bigger, but the underlying structure becomes pretty noticeable. The structure gets kind of longer. My inner labia are pretty long, too. Like Tuesday, I noticed I was a bit bigger than some other girls and girls in pictures growing up. But most female friends I seen naked had quite a bit of labia hanging. So despite what some people want us to think, it's pretty common.

I always thought all this extra tissue might make me more sensitive. Not in an "ouch" way, but more like in a way that made me very aware of my bits. But I do get numb with vibration, so it's been a while since I have reached for a vibrator. I've been tempted to try a new one, but I don't want something that makes me feel like I don't have a clit the following day! I do orgasm easily when the clit comes in contact with stimulation--like on top of my significant other, or on a firm cushion.

I know two of my female friends have less tissue down there and have had a hard time coming last time we talked about it. I got to play with one of them when we were younger and her clit was tiny from what I recall. But I suspect she has figured something out as she seems pretty satisfied with that part of her life now?

I never really thought about this. I guess mine is pretty small. I can get off with just my fingers, but vibrations are preferable and quicker.

I would think that regardless of size they would have the same number of nerve endings. I would think that smaller clits would therefore be more sensitive because the nerves are concentrated in a smaller area. But maybe the tiny ones are more completely covered by the hood. Mine is smaller than a pea and always completely hidden unless I intentionally pull the hood back. I love strong vibrations and firm pressure but I always keep my panties on. My clit is painfully sensitive to direct contact.

LIMA BEAN is the average clitoris size!? Wow I did not know that. I was taught that a pea size was average, but ahh, what does it really matter? Lol.

Mine is from a pea to piece of corn size (feels so weird saying that! lol) and is VERY sensitive. I don't need super strong vibes to get there, but I need particular ones. Those cheap vibes that have high pitched numbing vibes do little for me, but only the most subtle strokes of a finger can totally get me off! So I consider myself very sensitive.

I’m a man, so I cannot speak to whether there is a correlation between clitoris size and sensitivity. However, I could hypothesize that size might correlate to what works regarding, say the design of toys. If you are familiar with the We-Vibe Tango and Salsa vibrators, you know that they are identical except for the tip. Yet, many women are divided as to which one they prefer and why they prefer them. One has a pointed tip, and the other has a flat angled lipstick type tip. Is it possible that the size of the clitoris in part may explain the difference in opinions towards the two We-Vibe vibrator tips. Is it possible that if you have a large clitoris you may prefer the flatter broader tip of the Tango. It’s obviously more surface area. Vice versa or conversely, maybe those women with a smaller clitoris prefer the Salsa because it is more pin point accurate. If a clitoris has the same sensitivity whether it is small or large, it would seem reasonable that the size and shape of objects which might come in contact can be the cause of such differing reactions. As a man, I obviously don't have the answer. I only pose the question.
