Inverted nipples

Contributor: Armsjlove Armsjlove
My daughter is approaching puberty and she's concerned that her nipples don't look like the pictures in her puberty class book. They're inverted and she's concerned that they'll never 'poke out'.

My original thought is that they'd most likely 'poke out' (her words, not mine), around puberty, or when her breasts fill out some. I've done a little further research on the topic so I know this isn't always the case, but I'd like to hear from the good people here on the EF forum.

Any personal thoughts or experiences on the subject? Thanks. ~ Arms

Perceptive forum discussions on Nipple vibrators:

A nipple sensitivity question?
Are your nipples equally sensitive or is one nipple more sensitive than the other?

Changes Nipple Color
Has anyone experienced a change in nipple color? My nipples and areolas (areolae?) are normally a subtle shade of rose petal translucent pink. Last.

Nipple pinching...yes or no?
I'm curious how many people enjoy their nipples to be pinched, if so what is your gender? Do guys enjoy getting their nipples pinched too?

Nipples
I'd like something that will be like someone is sucking my nipples. Any ideas? I've looked at the clamps. What are those like? Thanks!

Nipple clamps for beginners?
So... My bf has super sensitive nipples that I can't stop playing with. I keep cracking jokes about how I'm going to buy a pair of nipple clamps. I...

I do not. Have you talked to her pediatrician or maybe even a gynecologist? They might have some other knowledge or advice on the subject.

Thanks for your input. I was planning on asking the next time we went to her doctor, but I like getting any additional information I can in the meantime. ~ Arms

They may never "poke out" as you put it. Some women have inverted nipples. Some women only have one inverted nipple while the other one pokes out. There's nothing wrong with this. While it's normal most of the time poking out nipples are more widely shown because it's what the majority of women have. The only time it's an issue is when they've been "poking out" and suddenly invert. Then you should see your doctor about it, but since hers have not poked out to begin with (I assume) then it may not happen. Maybe explain to her that there's nothing wrong with her or them if they don't. It's like hair color, or body type... everybody is a little different.

I am not sure if they will pop out, but I have always wanted larger nipples and have forever searched for suction/pumps/ect. I finally found one that is truly amazing. Its called Niplette from Advent. It's originally made for breastfeeding moms with small or inverted nipples. I started wearing it about an hour a day and it has made a HUGE difference!

I don't really think she should worry about her nipples in a cosmetic sence until she is much older.

I have had girlfriends with inverted nipples actually pierce them to "pull" them out which helped.

But like I said if she is really concerned the Niplette thingy does wonders. You have to use a small amount of vaselene with the product to get it to latch but it will stay on a long time.

Reassure her though that all breasts/and nipples are beautiful and the more unique the more to feel confident about having something special

Thanks, everyone. I try to be positive all the way around when it comes to any body 'issues' she may have (she's at that age), and getting additional information is how I support her. Thanks again, all. ~ Arms

Webmd.com might have some information about it. I understand why you're looking and I think it's very supportive. There's nothing worse than being "different" at that age so I can understand why she's asking. I remember begging my mom for a bra in 5th grade because I was embarrassed to change in gym class. I was flat as a board but she bought me some anyway. Good luck and I hope you can find something to help her.

My original ... more
A little to young to be concerned, but make sure she knows that everyone is different and most people find "different/other" more attractive! Nothing to worry about!

I had them and hoped they would "pop out" too but I hit puberty at about 10y/o and didnt grow anymore in my breasts. I really didnt grow much more after that at all. I hated them and did not show ANYONE them, even a boyfriend of like 5 years at the time. Serious self esteem issues. Small tiny boobs with inveretd nipples, I was miserable, so on my 18th birthday I got them peirced because I read it can help. it did for a while but they reverted but were still a little bit normal because of the pericing. Still the bf could touch but not look. Last July I got implants and inverted nipple surgery. The size of my breasts are great, left nipple is decent. Id describe it as "flat" but the right one reverted again. Ill probably have my PS redo it eventually. Im still self concious about the right nipple but the bf loves them. As much as he didnt want me to get implants, he has no complaints now.

I've had inverted nipples my whole life, and believe me, I've been self conscious about them. However, they're perfectly normal to have. I've been using the avent niplette, which is used to help with breastfeeding. I've had some success, but the results aren't permanent. However, Ive been told that piercing can be used to keep the nipple erect.
