Any good preventative measures for ingrown hairs?

Contributor: LittleA LittleA
I love waxing, hate pubic hair, but am on a never ending search at how to prevent ingrown hair. Seems like waxing makes it better, but still have really painful ingrowns, and makes the fresh wax looks like a mine field. I suspect I'm missing some info somewhere, because I heard that black males have a similar issue shaving their faces. I have curly hair so more prone to it. Anyone have some preventative measures, cures?

Exfoliate for a couple of days after waxing, GENTLY.

My girlfriend gets some seriously nasty looking ingrowns in the pubic area. She mostly plucks her pubic hairs and that helps, but it doesn't prevent it.

I can't wax. Everytime I do I get ingrown hairs, not only the kind that are almost like a pimple, but I get hairs that grow really long just under the skin, so it looks like hair got missed by the wax but it didn't, it's just under the top layer of skin. No amount of exfoliating soaps, scrubs, loofas, sponges, or other exfoliation techniques seem to do anything to prevent them.

Use a razor that isn't too worn down and warm water before shaving.

If you're sure you want to keep waxing instead of shaving (shaving will cause less ingrowns because the hairs are not growing back from as deep under the skin), try a product called Tend Skin. It's a liquid you apply to the areas you've waxed and it works to prevent and treat ingrown hairs. It doesn't get rid of mine completely, but it's made things a lot better for me. Also make sure you're exfoliating, like others have suggested!
