They say you shouldn't douche often. I do with water often and with a regular douche as needed. I know that the vagina is a self cleaning organ but sometimes (especially after sex) I just have to clean. How often do you think that it is still healthy?

Honestly, I don't think it's healthy to do ever, and have heard physicians and other OB/GYN staff say the same. It simply doesn't need it and the introduction of any substance into the vagina (other than semen, lube, etc.) and the flushing out of necessary fluids can really throw off your body's natural balance. I personally have never done it, and never felt at all like it needed to be done.

I NEVER douche. It is not healthy for the tissues or the beneficial bacteria of the vagina. My vagina is healthy and happy. If I get a yeast infection or a rare bacterial infection (it's been years since I had one of those) I use the right medication for the problem, and things go back to normal. Douching during a bacterial infection can actually push bacteria into the uterus, which can lead to very serious infection of the entire reproductive tract. We have actually seen a decrease in Pelvic Inflammatory Disease as fewer and fewer women use vaginal douches, due to better education and information.

A good bath or shower is all your vagina needs to stay clean.
While training, we were taught, through medical research, that any douching is dangerous, as well as unnecessary (and this was years ago, when many women still thought they "had to to stay clean") It doesn't "clean" the vagina, as much as strip it of natural benefits and there is really no reason to do it.
Yeah, if you don't use a condom or have your man come somewhere else, there is going to be semen in the vagina. Semen isn't dirty or bad. It belongs in there. Your body will rid itself of the semen quickly, if you give it a chance.
Your body knows how to keep itself healthy, if left to it's own devices, with only a little help from good regular bathing or showering. Love your vagina! Trust it to take care of itself.

Thanks for the input

I've never done it. Not because I was told it was unhealthy though, just because.. washing with a warm washcloth and a gentle soap on the outside make me feel clean. It never smells and I don't have any weird discharge or other problem, so I've never felt the need arise to use one.

I never douched its bad for your vagina and also puts you at higher risk of cervical cancer and infections.

I never have. I think the closest I came was after I gave birth and I had to spray my stitches with warm water and even at that I forgot most of the time because it felt so bizarre to do so

I used to when I was younger, but I ended up with an infection so bad I couldn't hardly move let alone walk. After a trip to the ER they put me on an IV and some serious pain meds & after a pelvic exam and tests he determined I had pelvic inflammatory disease. (PID) He started me on antibiotics and within days I was starting to feel better. He flat out told me to not douche because your body has it's own natural way of cleaning itself not to mention it interferes with the natural bacterial culture of the vagina. My follow up with my OB/GYN confirmed what the ER Dr said. Believe me that was the worst pain ever! Even more so than childbirth and I haven't touched a douche since.

although the posts are right it's not healthy for you. But I use it once a week and have been for 16 years and have never had any infections, discharge, or anything else weird. I absolutely love the smell of the one I use and I don't feel clean with just a shower our water smells and tastes like bleach there's to many toxins in the water. I feel cleaner with rain water but sadly it doesn't rain enough or hard enough to take a shower. So I use the douche. I only use Summer's Eve brand I will only use "Island Splash" I also use the femme deodrant spray. I hate the femme washes I have smelled every one on the market and they stink so I stick to douche, spray and 2-6 showers a day. 2 in the winter, spring and fall and 6 in summer plus I shave 2 times a day every day.

Sliquid Splash Unscented Intimate Wash is a nice pussy and bath cleanser. (For external use only.) It has no odor whatsoever, and leaves you feeling clean, but not stripped of natural protection. I only use the unscented variety. But, regular body wash will do, too.

Have you tried this one?
Also, a water softener in your house will remove the bleach from your water. We have a private well (in our front yard) and our water is nasty, (you can't drink it) but with the water softener, at least it's safe to bathe in. The water softener takes out a lot of the nasty stuff in our water.
Did you say 6 showers a day? Wow. My skin would fall off if I bathed that much. Once is good for me. Occasionally twice if I'm working in the yard in the summer.

I don't douche either. I grew up hearing too many negative things about what it does for your pH balance and such. As a matter of fact, I was thinking of trying the unscented version of that Sliquid Splash Body Wash that P'Gell mentioned. I find a lot of regular body washes to be irritating.

I read in Cosmo when I was 13 that it was bad for the vajay jay and that you should just clean it really good with mild soap and water. So I always do that, religiously. But my mom douches a lot, I have the pleasent misfortune of seeing all her douche boxes coming into the house at least 2 or 3 times a month. And I want to tell her "mom, that's bad for your vagina!" but she's been a woman long than I have and has read Cosmo just as long as I have so where do I get off telling her what to do with her business, you know?
So yeah. Um, my mom does it at least 3 times a month and I never do it, hope that helps.

Yeay, I'm glad this thread floated back up. I don't douche but I was wondering where that Sliquid Splash fell along those lines. Glad to see that it would still be safe to use!
