No we have never had an STD. I know he has had crabs before, that is no big deal though. I know people with herpes, my cousin had the clap, and I knew one person with AIDS.
How many people have been affected by STD/STI?
10/09/2011
I got the Gardisil shot at 18 and still got hpv. I was diagnosed over a year ago I'm 22 now.My paps always came back normal even before and after I was diagnosed. I've only ever had one out break and never had it again. My immune system I guess fought it off, however I made sure to always make my partners aware that I have had it just so they knew what they were getting into. I believe anyone who has sex knowing they have an STI and does not tell the partner they're sleeping with is committing a form of physical abuse.

i've never gotten an std/sti, but my fiancee's sister did because she had unprotected sex at age 14. the sad part is her mom is a midwife and she let a guy talk her into unprotected sex. fortunately it was resolved quickly.

Never had one, but a friend of mine in high school did.

i've been with over 40 people, never had an STD.
plenty of people get STDs from being with one person. it is completely possible, and logical. it only takes 1 person to give you an STD.
this is a completely misinformed statement you've made here.

I've never had one and I don't know of anyone who does.

I've never had one, but I have a friend who is rather *ahem* easy, and she has had a few minor ones.

I've never had an STD but know people that have.

Thankfully neither I nor my partner have ever had an std, but I have known many people who do. My aunt's late husband passed away due to HIV/AIDs a long time ago, as did several members of the church I went to as a child. I'm always horrified when I meet people who aren't careful when having sex with strangers/new partners, I just can't imagine risking my life that way.

I'm so sorry. That really sucks. I was nervous telling my mom about it, but felt I had too since I was having a c-section, and didn't want the dr. or nurse to slip and say something about why I was having it done, so I told her, and my mother was very supportive. I even found out one of the men she'd dated for several years had had herpes as well! I was nervous because of her little comments she'd made, and told her so. She wasn't even aware that she'd said anything (during a Valtrex commercial).

I was told I had an STD by my gynecologist: "I'm about 98% sure, I'll run a test if it'll make you happy". I told my parents, and instead of them being supportive, they threatened to throw me out of the house and told me that I wasn't 'their 'daughter' because 'their daughter' wouldn't have sex. At that time I'd had two partners, both boyfriends. When the test came back a couple weeks later, I didn't have anything, but they refused to believe it. It completely ruined my relationship with my parents.

I ended up with something after a condom mishap-but I was totally disgusted with the care. Where I live I have no family doctor, and had to go to a walk in clinic, where I was treated like shit, told I would only be tested for the clap and gonorrhea, and given ZERO options for other testing. The sexual health clinic only treats people under 25 (since apparently us over 30's never have sex) and I have no real sense of where to go for full testing, and am mortified and quite angry about having to return back to this clinic. I was confident about what it was, but all things considered, I was embarrassed and infuriated that the "doctor" didn't feel like sending me for full tests.

I have known several people that had STDs for sure, and probably a number that don't discuss it or don't know they have one.

I have never had an STD or an STI, I have been tested and I think everyone should get tested, there's no harm in being tested. I'm a safety first type of gal so I use protection even with committed partners but once I'm at the stage of living with them, I won't use protection all the time but that's a comfort zone thing and I ask them that we both get tested once it's reached that level of seriousness. The amount of people that you have slept with may increase your chance of getting infected with something but like others have mentioned, you can get something from the first person you sleep with so it's always better to be safe. I have known people with stds and they were the type to sleep around and never use protection but I know that doesn't mean that that's always the case. I have also known people who knew that they were infected with something that they would have for life and they knowingly passed it on to others and found the fact that they had done so....hilarious. Needless to say I don't associate with said person anymore because that disgusts me that someone could knowingly do that to another person. Hopefully there will be a cure for all of these some day, it breaks my heart when you hear cases in the news of someone who has willingly infected another person with HIV. Dental dams also need to be more widely available, I don't know if you can get them at the clinics here, you can just get free condoms as far as I know. I work in an adult store and we don't even sell dental dams and the other adult store that I worked at for years always carried them but they rarely sold because people just seem to not bother with them

statistically rates of stds are inversely proportional to education in regards to sex/stds/contraception , so i would guess that people who talk about sex more frequently (like the people around here) would therefore be less likely to have stds

I have had some friends come across STD's that are easily cured. Luckily for them. That's why you should always have safe sex.

Never had one, thank god and I never put myself in danger. I know some people who have one form or another and it truly ruins lives. Both girls were infected by a 'knew it but didn't reveal it' person.

Funny thing about STDs... no one ever admits to having them. And most people don't ever get tested.
Well, many STDs are asymptomatic. Or squeak by unnoticed. And are thus transmitted by people who have no idea they have an STD. Many of whom proudly proclaim they are clean.
Remember, many common STDs - chlamydia, gonnorhea, herpes - would make sexual activity undesirable or extremely uncomfortable to a person who is symptomatic.
So I have to laugh at the poll - knowing that statistically,
1 in 4 people have genital herpes (most people have no idea they have it)
Between 30 and 40 percent of the entire population, at present, will contract an STD in their lifetime. Not counting HPV, which is at rates upwards of 80%.
At present, 50 percent of sexually active people contract an STD by age 25
Around 80% of people living with chlamydia or gonorrhea have no idea they have it.
Sorry for no citations, but I'm recounting the statistics from memory for a public health presentation I did a few years back (and I can assure you my memory is quite good.)
I look at at this way - if you're under 30 and sexually active with people who have had more than one partner, you likely have something. Especially consider condoms don't protect against herpes, which can be asymptomatic yet actively shedding. And once in a committed relationship, face it - most people are quick to lose the condoms.
So to make my point clear, MOST STDs ARE TRANSMITTED BY PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE THEY DON'T HAVE AN STD... OR HAVE HAD A BASIC STD SCREENING THAT CAME BACK CLEAR.
Just my 2 cents.

Remember, no one can truthfully say they are clean unless they've had a PCR test stating they are herpes negative. A basic STD screening does NOT do this.
