How long did it take you to work your menstrual cup?

I had the hardest time with it (either it leaking or it sticking out or it just not being comfortable) and I was wondering if others did too -

I recently starting using the instead menstrual cups. it took me a few tries to get it to sit right. kinda like how it took some practice when I started using tampons. but within my first period using it I had gotten it so that it worked right, and felt comfortable.

It took me quite a while too, but don't give up. Try using different positions everytime you empty it. I like to change mine in the shower, usually with a foot propped up on the soap dish. But I have friends who squat down, kneel, bend over or just sit on the toilet. It might take some awkwars frustrating bathroom gymnastics to get it just right. Be careful, don't slip and bump your head!

I use the Diva Cup, and it did take me a few tries to really get the hang of. Once you get it down, though, it is so much easier! I compare it a little to getting the hang of how to best make a new vibrator work with your body- you may have to try some different positions and movements, but eventually you figure it out.

I just got mine today. I'm on try 3 of today and think I'm still leaking. We'll see in a few hours. Haha.

Does anybody recommend a certain folding technique? I'm using a Diva cup.

For some reason, the first time I ever tried a menstrual cup it worked great. And then, it has never ever worked well since. I have a retroverted uterus though, and I later found out that was likely the reason. Boo! Oh well. I'll stick with cloth pads.

I fold my Diva Cup in half so it looks like a C and insert the folded side first. It goes in pretty easily that way for me. I have found it helpful to dab away any menstural drips that may have come from emptying before re-inserting the cup. It seems to help keep the cup from slipping upward and allowing menses to leak around it as much. And once it's in give it a full spin in both directions so it pops open all the way.

Sorry if that was a really gross mental picture I just made. There's just no easy pleasant way to talk about periods. But I hope that was helpful.

I use a C-fold, but unless I run a finger around the base I can't be sure it unfolded properly and formed a seal. In addition to trying different positions when inserting your cup be sure to try different folding techniques; I found this video helpful. Making a recommendation for one fold over another is impossible, everybody is different and not all cups are designed quite the same either.

This page has several different folding techniques on it. I personally use the Punch-Down Fold. Once I have it about half way inserted, I allow it to open up (sometimes I'll give the very bottom a little squeeze if it doesn't pop open on its own), I can often hear the suction form this way, then I finish inserting it. After inserting it, I do as others have said - run my finger around the sides to make sure they're all up and give it a bit of a spin. Then I use my PC muscles to squeeze it a couple of times, push it down a little, and then kind of pull it back up. I'll check it again with my finger, and usually all is well so I'm on my way.

Just keep trying, there is not one right way or wrong way, you just kind of have to figure out what works for you. I would also recommend doing some trial runs when you aren't on your period. That way you can get some practice with your folding and insertion techniques, and get a little more comfortable with it. Best wishes!
