How do sexually active ladies take care of their parts?

Contributor: shielaray shielaray
As a frequently sexually active woman, I often feel like I have to take a lot of cautions in terms of my body and making sure everything is balanced and comfortable. For me this includes regularly making sure I'm not getting a UTI or Yeast Infection by taking things like probiotics, cranberry pills, etc. as well as other things..

I'm just wondering what some other maintenance routines are, and how other ladies check in with their bodies and make sure they're staying all around healthy!

I use glycerin and paraben free feminine wash, but that's about it.

I always go pee if anything goes inside of me. I frequently eat stuff like cranberries and blueberries but I don't do it all the time to stop myself from getting infections. I avoid douches and I use method soap while shaving down there. That's about it. I try to avoid parabens and glycerin in lubes and soaps also.

no glycerin (although sometimes I can't help it if its a stim gel)

Washing in the shower is my cleaning ritual. I'm not really sure where this idea came from in our culture that vaginas need so much upkeep - they make it sound like vaginas are cars! Change your oil, check your fluids, rotate your tires...

Vaginas are self-cleaning ovens. Wipe properly and bathe regularly, and you're good to go. If I get an infection I do what I need to do to get over it, but that's it.

No maintenance required for the female body, seriously!

My vaginal maintenance routine is pretty simple: urinate after penetration, wash my outer labia with all-natural, gentle soap when I shower and make sure that it's well rinsed, then gently rinse my inner labia with a quick stream of water. Make sure I'm drinking plenty of water and eating well. And a yearly visit with my gynecologist to make sure everything is ship-shape.

The only issue I've ever had is folliculitis (inflamed hair follicles, in my case caused by trying to shave my dense, curly hair, so now I just keep it trimmed).

I just do the usual wash with soap and water, and make sure to wipe off and go to the bathroom after sex. I did get a UTI once when going to sleep immediately after sex...and that is something that I will never do again!

I do drink cranberry juice as well, but more for the taste and the healthy antioxidants than for UTI prevention. I eat a lot of yogurt (probiotics and healthy bacteria) as well and have never had a yeast infection. I have read that a good diet directly affects vaginal health...though doesn't it help for everything?!
