Do you experience hormonal itching?

During the last, I'd say month of my pregnancy, my clit got very, very itchy...actually, more the little space just above it where the labia start to part. Like scratch myself raw and bleeding, itchy. Much worse than any yeast infection I have ever experienced.

Since having my daughter, I get this same itch about a week before my period, mainly at night. My only guess is it has to do with a change in hormones, but for the life of me I can't find a way to make the itch feel better. Occasionally a cold cloth helps a bit...I have't tried taking anything like benadryl or any other antihistamines, I'm not sure they'd help and they tend to bother me more than they help anyways.

I see my doctor at the end of the month..it's one of the things I'll be bringing up, but I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or has any insight?? It drives me nuts!!

For the record, there is no excess discharge, or foul smelling discharge, and no itching anywhere else down there...all seems normal, except in that one spot. I have had two paps since her birth in the last 13 months and no one has said or noticed anything as far as infections or anything goes. So, I just have no idea!

I've had itchiness from taking BC too close together, which seems to indicate this could be hormone related.

I used to always get itchy like that right after my period. I tried everything possible, but had no idea what to do. I ended up sitting with a warm washcloth in my panties to help ease the itching and stinging (from scratching). Doc said it was either from a ph imbalance or hormones acting up.

I am so sorry for you suffering with this, but it is a very interesting subject. Would you please let us know here after your doctor's appointment, what the problem is & any way to find relief? I don't have this exact problem, but I do have terrible feminine itchiness at times.

I have some ideas that might bring some relief for you in the meantime. If you don't want to take a Benadryl pill, have you considered trying the topical cream they make? That would keep the medicine localized & avoid the systemic side effects you mentioned disliking. Another way to approach this is to try a hydocortisone cream, either in conjunction with the anti-histamine cream or by itself. Finally, you could try a numbing cream on the area, something for vaginal itching containing something like benzocaine or one of the -caines. I want to warn you that if the area is raw from scratching, you will experience stinging from the numbing cream & possibly from anything you apply! Watch out for that, but it does go away as soon as the numbing effect takes over. I hope one of those helps bring you some blessed relief!

I did experience this prior to my hysterectomy...so would agree it is hormonal. I was too embarrassed to discuss it, though--so your answer would be a blessing to many women out there who also may share this!!

I've experienced it before. Just thought it was my pH levels being thrown off. Never knew hormones can make ya itch. Very interesting.

Glad to (in the sense of not being alone, not in the sense that I am happy for you guys) know that others have experienced this. I had never heard of it before, or experienced it! My appointment isn't until the 30th, but I'll be sure to update when I do (hopefully) get some answers!

I don't have this exact issue, but I do from time to time have terrible itchiness going on down there.

Update -

I have a small external yeast infection. The doctor said he thinks I am one of the 30% of women who always has yeast spores without any problems, but that pregnancy and hormonal changes have caused me to react to those spores when my hormones do a major shift after ovulation. So for now I am trying an external antifungal cream and if it doesn't work we'll try something else!
