I dont have any kids.. but I have been kinda interested in Home births with a midwife if I do have any kids. It just seems nicer and not rushed.
Home birth or Hospital birth

I haven't had kids yet, but I'm hoping for a home birth. It's something my body is built to do, I don't see the point of interfering unless something goes awry.
Business of Being Born is a great movie, btw! I'll have to add Pregnant in America to my queue!

I'm looking forward to my home birth, however far off that may be

Hospital birth for me. AND I got an Epidural. It was fabulous, I was still able to feel, just not the pain. Next time I want to try without an Epidural though.

I planned to have my son with a midwife at a birthing center but at 2 weeks overdue my midwife threw in the towel and they induced me at the hospital. I was upset that I had to go to the hospital at first but the nurses and doctor were so wonderful and it turned out to be great that I went there because my son was very post-due and he passed meconium on his way out, plus I had a very high post-partum fever. So, I had a great experience with the midwife but ultimately the hospital was a great place for me to be. You can't control what life will throw at you!

I had my first three kids in hospitals. I wasn't happy with any of those experiences. My last one was born at home and it was wonderful!!! If I had to do it all over again, all of them would have been born at home.

I had my daughter in a hospital. I would LOVE to do a homebirth with my next child, I didn't have a very pleasant experience in the hospital

I absolutely loooove "Business of Being Born"! "Pregnant in America" is almost as good. It's not quite the same type of documentary though cause it's created by a man following the evolution of his wife's first pregnancy and how they learn as a couple about the medical industry and health facts about the body. It's very personal.

My babies were born in hospitals. My youngest was born in triage and I barely made it to the hospital in time...I had to fight myself not to push. I almost wish I would have just stayed home. It would have been a much more pleasant experience for many reasons.
If I have more, I'd like to birth them at home and I will plan for it from the start.

OMG! That also happened to my friend with her first son. I was there and it was very, very scary. They ended up having to do a DNC and they didn't use anything to kill her pain. It was also a sub-par hospital and the staff seemed to be clueless. Glad you made it through!

Well, I had my baby in a small town hospital that obviously was not up to par. They left afterbirth inside me and I nearly died from that. So make sure you go to a competant hospital.

Had both of mine in a hospital with epidurals! My second came so fast that the epidural didn't fully work. I enjoyed giving birth both times. The hospital was great, the staff was caring but stayed out of the way until it was time to push. I think I would be nervous to do it at home. I liked knowing people were there to look out for me and the baby if something went wrong.

Both of my children were born in the hospital.

Thank you Angel. Glad your friend made it also. Just curious...how long was the afterbirth inside her before they found out? With me it was a year.

We don't have kids yet, but when we do they'll be born either at home with a licensed midwife or in a birthing center. It's a common misconception that home births are dangerous. For low-risk pregnancies, they are very safe--some studies have shown they're SAFER than hospital births. Think about it--a hospital is a place for sick people. There are lots of germs and viruses floating around. I don't want myself or my new baby exposed to that. Also, with home birth you have the freedom to control your atmosphere. You can play music, light candles, eat, drink, whatever. And no one is thrusting paperwork in your face in your vulnerable moments, either. I've heard horror stories of mothers who did not want certain vaccinations or to circumcise and were pushed into these decisions when they were exhausted from labor. I want to give birth on MY terms, no one else's. I'm looking forward to giving birth at home.

I haven't had children yet, but I intend to have natural home births. I used to assume that people who have home births were careless, foolish and being unsafe. But I must caution everyone: get educated!! My own curiosity led me on a long search for the truth, which eventually won me to the home birth side. I've made friends with some doulas and midwifes, and I'm now considering become a doula to help more women make home births possible.

Luckily both were hospital births. Would have lost my daughter if at home

Never had a baby, but I really like the idea of home births/having a midwife or other alternatives to hospitals. The U.S is one of the few countries where this option isn't very popular.

Simple question, for your births have you been at a hospital or at home?
One of my favorite documentaries is, "The Business of being Born". It's Amazingly good!

I had to have an epidural so home birth was def out of the question!!

no children yet but would do a hospital for sure in case so many things could go wrong especially with the guy im with he almost died when he was born

I had a home birth with my last child. It was an unassisted home birth (no medical professionals involved). Unless there is a huge medical problem, I will NEVER give birth in a hospital again. You can read my birth story here: link

I had a hospital birth. I had a great dr who understood what I wanted and did not want and left everything up to me. I liked knowing that if there was cause for concern, everything was right there. Plus the thought of that mess in my house grosses me out. I dont wanna clean up after that! lol

I had high risks with both of mine had to have hospital births, also had to be induced.

many of my friends have had home births, but it's been all hospital for me!

My four sisters had all eight of their children in the hospital.

I would have liked home births but I didn't have a way to do that with my first and both of my following pregnancies had complications so it was just safer to be in the hospital. All my babies are healthy and I am just thankful for that!

EPIDURAL. i'd get one tomorrow if they asked.

I didn't vote since I havent given birth ever. But if I was going to give birth I would def go to the hospital!
I want that epidural! And then if there are any complications or problems with me or the baby we are already at the hospital and easily cared for.
I'd feel more safe and relaxed at the hospital then at home. Another plus is no mess at home! haha.
