Have you ever gotten a yeast infection from antibiotics?

Contributor: Virgingasms Virgingasms
We've all had a few yeast infections over the years, but have you ever gotten one from taking antibiotics? I didn't even know it could happen until a little over a year ago when it happened to me, which unfortunately happened again when I had to take them after I had my wisdom teeth pulled a few months ago.

Yes, my doctor has even given me a prescription for a yeast infection medication at the same time as antibiotics because of this.

All you have to do is look at me funny & I swear I get a yeast infection!

Yes, every time I take antibiotics, I get a yeast infection. I also get them frequently, right before my period & any time I have an gyno exam or urological procedure.

One of the best things ever for me was when they finally made the topical yeast medications non prescription!

No, just from a certain soap and a bubble bath.

Yep. Took antibiotics when I got my wisdom teeth out.

I've never gotten one from antibiotics but I know that it can happen.

This used to happen to me until my doctor informed me that simply eating a cup of active-culture yogurt while taking the antibiotics will prevent it. Works like a charm, haven't had a problem since.

Yes, and mine was caused from antibiotics given to me after dental procedures last year too! I'd had to get a wisdom extracted and a root canal back around February! I got rid of mine by using a peroxide, sea salt, tea tree oil and/or garlic solution. Works like a charm. Every single time.

Yep, antibiotics have given me a yeast infection. Thankfully the doctor also prescribed pills for a yeast infection since it was likely I'd get one.

I had a period of time where I would get sick, take an antibiotic, get a yeast infection, take that antibiotic, then get bacterial vaginosis, then get another yeast infection and so on. It was the worst. Thankfully, it hasn't happened in a few years.

I have it happen here and there depending on the antibiotic I have been on luckily the most common antibiotic I am given is Z-Packs an *knock on wood* they don't cause yeast infections. When I do get them however I get the Diflocan (sp?) pill so I don't have to use creams

I get them from antibiotics all the time, it's terrible. I have never heard of the active-culture yogurt trick though. I will have to remember to try that next time. I wish more doctors would think of there patients and at least warn them that this is something that might happen to them. And prescribe something for them.

No, I've never gotten one from antibiotics. I must be made of steel down there, because I've only ever had 1 yeast infection my entire life. It was not fun either, so I am thankful that I don't get them regularly!

They almost always give me a yeast infection. Luckily, I don't need antibiotics very often. I try to stick with probiotics!

Without fail I get a yeast infection about 3 days in. I already take mondo doses of probiotics, and up my intake during the course. Yeast just seems to like me a lot.

I have gotten increasingly susceptible to them with age and the last antibiotics course set one off. I hate antibiotics

Yes. The bad thing about antibiotics is it even kills the good bacteria, leading to yeast infections and possible intestinal problems. Take a probiotic AFTER you complete your course of antibiotics. If you take one while on antibiotics, it does absolutely nothing because the antibiotic will kill the good bacteria

Yes I have when I've taken them for strep or similar problems. Then I have to take the pill for the yeast when I first see symptoms. OTC treatments don't work for me since they contain glycerin. And I have to make sure I use glycerin and paraben free lube.

Every time I got strep throat in the past and got antibiotics for it I'd end up with a yeast infection. It's not as bad now if I have to take them for something because I've been taking acidophilus pills.

I've thankfully never gotten a yeast infection before. Then again I can't remember the the last I took any antibiotic so I might just get it with that also.

My prior girlfriend did due to high MG volume. You can use yogurt, freeze and insert inside! It actually worked, she would buy the children squeeze one easier to use.

I've never had one, but I did get BV once which sucked. It wasn't from antibiotics though. Just bad luck.

Almost always, I've just gotten in the habit of asking whoever's prescribing the antibiotics to also write me a prescription for the meds for yeast infections just in case.

Yes, a couple times. It's pretty common, because antibiotics can cause a hormone imbalance.
