After having my first 2 children, I have discovered that I prefer a man ob/gyn. Had a younger male ob for my 3rd child and now I don't think I'll ever prefer to see a woman again. Although, if a woman was my only option I would be okay with that. I think male ob/gyns have a little more sympathy.

I have only ever seen females, I will wait till I can get in with one. I am not comfortable with male doctors. JMO.

In my experience, male doctors are a lot less gentle.

My wife's first one was a woman. We moved and she saw a man once, and never went back. She said a woman was just more gentle and familiar with things down there...

Until just a few years ago, I didn't want to see a male OB/GYN. However, after trying 3 female ones down here, I was recommended to go see the one I have now. The female Drs were ROUGH! And I've never had that problem anywhere else. Usually female Drs are gentle. Not here in East TX!!! I've been going to my current (male) GYN now for 3 yrs. He even did my sterilization surgery earlier this year. He's great. I love how he comes into the room, not in a dr jacket, but Hawaiian shirts!!! LOL Reminds me of Hawkeye Pierce from MASH. He's extremely gentle and quick.

I haven't ever been to a male OBGYN and honestly don't want to because I feel more comfortable with a woman OBGYN. I do know a few people who see a male doctor though and they say it doesn't bother them at all. I'm just not comfortable with the idea.

Sorry I haven't responded lately. I am doing well, and aparently had a miscarage that was very early into the pregency - like 2 weeks in. I'm very sensitive and that combined with some medicine I had taken were affecting me a lot. Thanks for all the help and support.

Female for me, I feel so much more comfortable.

I usually look for a female. Although, my last Dr was a referral, which happened to be a man (my first), and he ended up being wonderful. He was a bit crazy, spoke very candid, and made me more comfortable than any of my female Dr's. I went to him for about 10 years until he retired. Now I see his niece lol

I'm so sorry to hear about everything you went through last year with the miscarriage.

I've been to both male and female doctors and have not been uncomfortable in either setting. You have to figure they look at vagina all the time, it's silly to think yours would in some way surprise or arouse them.

I wasn't concerned about them being aroused, simply not sure how comfortable I am with the idea. Then again I try to avoid internal exams as I completely hate them.

I can assure you, being in the industry of medical examinations myself.

Being or getting aroused is the lowest priority of your day whilst at work.

My colleagues and and I have discussed this sort of topic to death.

After assisting or performing 10-14+ examinations per day 5 days a week, close to 42 weeks of the year (because doctors make sure they have their holidays).

You are very desensitised to the whole naked and intimate parts of the human body be it the same sex or the opposite gender to yourself.

You go from describing a woman (or guy) as hot, young and sexy to identifying them as what they actually are, client ABC-1234, another mid-20's with fears they may have contracted genital warts.

Nothing surprises a trained practitioner. Surprises are very bad in nursing and we are trained to make sure we recognise the facts.

Seek experienced OBGYN's be it male or female, then allow THEM to make YOU feel comfortable. Neglecting experience for the sake of comfort is a risk a lot of people make these days. So please don't. But that's my point of view.

Like I said I wasn't concerned with what they may think or any sexual arousal. I'm simply not sure even after having seen said doctor what I personally think of having a male OBGYN. That's a matter of personal preference and has nothing to do with how experienced or good the doctor is.

I apologise if what I am about to put forth sounds antagonistic but I am commenting on your specific statement. Being a MALE Nurse this topic affects me almost daily as individuals generally prefer to be dealt with by the same gender especially when dealing with intimate areas.

Question.

You would rather have an inexperienced or lesser experienced doctor/specialist over someone with perhaps better qualifications, skills and understanding of their medical service?

I've had both a female and male OBGYN, and I'm pretty young. (Perks of having endometriosis.)

Both doctors were wonderful, but I eventually chose a different physician when my female doctor couldn't see me for 6 months when I called and asked if she would insert an IUD for me!

The male doctor I saw was extremely professional, specializing in contraceptive research from OHSU. Also, he was the spitting image of Bill Nye the Science Guy. Same nose, head shape, haircut, and even little bow tie. It was hilarious! Otherwise, he was very intelligent, and did not make me feel uncomfortable even with the two interns I allowed into the room to watch the procedure.
But, otherwise the preference is very personal. Especially if someone is easily intimidated by men. Just know, that at any time during the procedure you can tell them to stop- hands off. Or even request a nurse to be present.

That is 100% correct.

In Australia almost always a nurse is present during any such examination.

I'm off topic a little here. My last physical, she did a "feel the testicles" for bumps, etc. Very professional. When she told me she was going to do it, I must have blushed or appeared astonished. She noticed and asked me,"you have never had one before ? "

Within a few seconds she put on some gloves and it was over. And she said they are fine.

I don't not believe you actually read my posts to which you commented on. First it could be a matter of both a male and female doctor have the exact same experience or you have no knowledge of either's experience other than they work at the doctor's office/hospital you visit. Second it has nothing to do with sexual arousal or interest. Third it is honestly a matter of personal preference - some people are more emotionally comfortable with a member of one sex or another doing their internal exams. Therefore from a standpoint of my posts, your question is irrelevant.

I am not intimidated by men, actually I have been told some men are intimidated by me. I would not be okay with interns or anyone else being present. I do not believe that anyone other than my lover ever has the right or a reason to see me without my clothing or to see/touch areas that a bikini would cover on me. Due to not being comfortable with anyone seeing me that way, and as my boyfriend is not an OBGYN, I try to avoid ever seeing one unless there's a huge and non-standard reason to.

Actually I did read your posts. My question is in specific relation to your comment: "That's a matter of personal preference and has nothing to do with how experienced or good the doctor is."

I'm not trying to push or be antagonistic with this and I will vacate this thread should you desire, but this sort of stuff cuts me hard as it literately is my job area. The sexual arousal aspect never had anything to do with it nor the comfort factor. Just your comment of personal preference over experience.

Therefore my question still stands:

You would rather have an inexperienced or lesser experienced doctor/specialist over someone with perhaps better qualifications, skills and understanding of their medical service?

It has nothing to do with arousal or assault, just personal emotional comfort.

I think I would be okay at with male gynecologist. All I want is someone who is polite, nonjudgmental and just tells me like it is without bullshitting.

Hetero guy here. This is very interesting...have had this discussion with my wife several times. Male DR examining female patient or vise-versa, regarding private parts...

I had an interesting experience 6 months ago. Went to a dermatologist for an upper thigh, lower abdomen rash. Strangely, none of it was on my unit. Thought I was going to see a male DR. Well, male DR called in sick that day and only other DR available was a woman - pretty hot I might add (looked about 40, like pornstar Kendra Lust!). Anyway, I had removed all clothing and only had a smock on when she entered the room. During the exam, she got a complete unobstructed view of my unit, which was getting harder and bigger as we progressed. How could I help it? I tried like hell to focus on my rash problem and the exam at hand, but it got more and more difficult to do so as the exam progressed. I could tell she was trying to get through the exam as swiftly as possible with no issues, so I know she took notice of my "issue". Once, she chucked slightly and said, "Let's just try to focus on your problem, shall we?" When the exam ended I was stunned...sat in the chair for at least 5 minutes I guess before leaving. Thank god it ended when it did, because I started pre-cumming a minute after she left the room! A million thoughts went through my mind for the rest of that day. Needless to say I took care of myself two times later that day!!!

So that was the reverse case, but...

As a hetero guy speaking here, I just don't know how its possible for a hetero male OBGYN to not get his rocks off while examining a female patient (assuming she is at least somewhat attractive). And what if she is really hot? Think about that...shaved hoohah spread eagle right in front of you, and you get to stick things/fingers inside her??? These guys should be paid Bill Gates salaries because I don't know how its possible to perform a professional exam under those conditions.

Not sure if these comments may sway the ladies one way or another but consider this: There is no way 100% of all male OBGYNs could examine you without getting their rocks off. Sorry, we are guys - and you are gals. We are designed to get turned on by the opposite sex. I may not be in the majority on this one but I know there are plenty of guys who would agree with me on this, on this so please don't cast me out to be some wacko pervert. Just telling it like it is.

BTW, my wife sees a female OBGYN - always has since early 20s. But I'm still holding out for the lesbian OBGYN/patient encounter

An RN I know very well told me they were taught to slap an erection if the guy was up to no good. I will validate that also, she told me this maybe 20 yrs ago. Now days that's prob cause for a lawsuit.

She also told me a professional see's what they see esp a male OBGYN all day long 4 days a week. Same with a female professional's seeing p-p's." Seen one seen them all."

"Some bigger some smaller, but all of them wrinkled"
Her exact words
