For us the secret was to shave every day - then the skin gets conditioned to the shaving. Using an exfolient helps prevent ingrown hairs - and you need a really good shave cream and sharp multi-blade razor.

My favorite shave cream is actually hair conditioner.

My wife being bare so much that she got laser treatments. Shaving is not eliminated - but it is an easy swipe or two of the razor 1/week. She's very pleased with the results.

I like to keep it trimmed as short as possible, every once in a while I will shave it clean with a razor, its just too much trouble to do it every time.

I usually just trim.
When I do shave I trim as much hair as possible first. Then I get a fresh razor out. Slather on some conditioning cream and shave with the hair 'grain'.
I find that if I go against the hair 'grain' I'll have pumps and strange fluid pockets show up on the skin.
