Getting your period after having a baby.

Contributor: Mrs.Cruz Mrs.Cruz
I recently had a baby and he will be 7 weeks old on Thanksgiving. I only bled for about 2 and a half weeks after having him by C-section. I still havent gotten my period, however its not bothering me since it took a while for me to get my period after having my 2 year old.

I was just wondering how long after having a baby did [You] get your period? How was it different from before you got pregnant?

Are you breastfeeding? If you are, it could not come back for a while. Every women is very different with breastfeeding curbing periods. It worked for mine for 3 months, but after that, I had a period like regular. However, some women don't have a period for up to a year after. It depends on your body. However, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't use protection for pregnancy because you can still get pregnant. You should read about this....Here.

I also only bleed for 2.5 weeks. If you are breastfeeding, your body naturally releases hormones that heal your body. This is why women who breastfeed are typically faster healers. If you don't breastfeed, your body doesn't start doing this right away.

There are benefits to the mother and the child to breastfeeding. Read here.

I also had both my girls by c-sections and didn't bleed for long afterwards. But it all depends on the person. Now my periods changed after each as well. After my 1st it got lighter and I had no cramps, but after my 2nd, it got very heavy and I had the worse cramps ever. But like I said everyone is different.

I can't remember exactly, but 7 or 8 months I think for both my babies. I had a miscariage inbetween them and never had a period between the miscariage and pregnancy for second child.

I breastfed both my boys up until I wasn't producing practically any milk. Both were around 3 to 3 and a half weeks, shortly after i stopped bleeding. I'm a smoker so in a way I was a little relieved when my milk started drying up.

I also have poly-cystic ovaries and never got my period on a regular schedule to begin with. I was actually very surprised at the beginning of February when I took a pregnancy test and it was positive.

I hate the horrible cramping from the uterus contracting while breastfeeding or pumping but i know the milk is better for the baby. Thank you for the links!
