I'm thinking of switching to them instead of horomal bc (the depo shot) because my hormones are all out of wack and my periods irregular and before the shot I had perfectly regular periods and no hormone imbalance issues and I just want to go back to that. But I don't know anyone IRL who uses them. I'm in a relationship with a guy I can communicate with who I wouldn't doubt would be supportive of me having to excuse myself to put it in and I've also used something similar to one for mensuration called the "softcup" so I feel like I would be ahead of the learning curve on how to use one. I just don't even know if Planned Parenthood still prescribes them and I don't know if you have to have a special fitting for one or what? Pap smears are bad enough so I don't want to have to go through some other long period of time with a speculum or anything....
Does Anyone Use A Diaphragm Anymore?

As far as I know, you can still get them, so talk to your doctor and see what's involved. I know you have to be fitted for one or else it won't work very well, but beyond that I don't know much since I don't know anyone who uses one.

My sister used one before and I also met a reproductive health/rights writer who used one too. They definitely have to be fitted, and honestly, I don't know where you could find one that wasn't fitted anymore! They used to be available when birth control was still illegal, since it was easy to hoodwink people, but with lowered interest in them and such, some doctors and pharmacies will not even bother with them. Talk to the doctor you go to now, and if they don't do them, ask for help finding someone who does. I think it's totally cool to switch to a diaphragm. I also abandoned hormonal birth control, and I am really glad I got a Paragard, a nonhormonal IUD. I hope you can get a diaphragm!

thanks for the replies, guys! i will definitely call around and ask to make sure the doctor i end up going to will be able to do one for me. i think the fitting will be worth it to go off the hormones.
