I tried! It didn't work for me. I hate it too because I was all excited about using one.
Does anyone here use a menstrual cup?

I use a Diva cup and it is amazing! Seriously, the best thing ever. Here's why:
1. You only have to change it twice a day. No messing around in public bathrooms!
2. Environmentally sustainable! You get a new one every year or two, think how much waste that cuts down on.
3. Sooooooo much cheaper.
4. It's much much better for your vagina. It's silicone instead of paper-y crap, no bleach, no perfumes, and it doesn't dry out your vagina.
5. No leaks. For most women, it doesn't fill up in 12 hours, so you don't have to worry!
6. Measure your flow. Because that's fun...right?
Seriously. Get one. I was wary of it, but after using it for one period I'm totally hooked! It does take a bit of getting used to, but believe me it's worth it. I ranted at all my friends, and now they all have them and are all in love with them. One friend even says she likes getting her period now (I totally don't understand that, but ok).

I love using my LadyCup. I bought the small size so the capacity isn't impressive but it lasts through the heaviest night so I don't complain. The best part is curing cramps with masturbation whenever I want to and not worrying about the cleanup. I hated inserting tampons cause they dried everything up before I put them in place and I didn't know when to remove them. Removing a cup is easy no matter if it's full yet or not.

I had a Diva cup for two years and it leaked like crazy. My periods were pretty erratic so I wasn't bothered too much. Once I got my hormones situated though, I needed something else. I tried a Lunette and it works a lot better for me. It's a firmer silicone so it doesn't squish when I am on the move or exercising. I double up on heavier days with Luna panties and reusable pads. They're really comfortable.
@lucymalfoy Not if you can find a handicapped stall with a sink. Otherwise, I just empty it and reinsert it. You're only changing it every 6-8 hours unless you're having the world's heaviest period ever, so the need to actually change it in public is pretty infrequent.
@WickedLush It's not much different than wrapping tampons/pads in toilet paper and putting them in the trash in the bathroom. Well, it is because my bathroom doesn't reek of used menstrual products for the whole week. I usually change mine when I shower, so it's not really messy at all.
(Not saying anyone should or needs to switch. Use what you're comfortable with. Just wanted to address some of the common concerns.) less

I can't believe I didn't think of that but that thought really makes me happy!

Diva Cups are great, especially because of how long you can leave them in (assuming your flow isn't super super strong that day).

I have never heard of a menstrual cup before! I guess you learn something new every day!

I have a Diva Cup coming in the mail. I had to stop using tampons a couple years ago and I hate the feeling of wearing a diaper, so I really hope this works for me!

I have a mooncup and it's fab, I work outside, frequently in the middle of woods and well away from any facilities or even the ability to wash hands so I love the fact i can put it in in the morning and leave it all day.. I tend to put it in just after a shower as that seems to work well for me too tho I still sometimes need a couple of tries to get it in and comfy.. One unforseen bonus is it seemed to help my cramps! :0) my hypothesis is that the drying out effect of tampons makes them worse plus the seemingly constant pulling out and inserting on heavy days.. anyone else found that?

I'm interested in it and I'm buying one when my supply of tampons runs out - which means in about half a year.

One of the main reasons I quit tampons was because of the cramps and migraines being unbearable. I have PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) which can be pure hell. I thought that maybe eliminating tampons would help it, so I stopped using them. They have gotten a lot better, and I haven't used tampons since then.

yes, sometimes I would find my cramps gone or at least far milder if I removed a tampon and just used pads for awhile. That is one of the reasons I switched to using a cup.

So far, after two months, I like my lunette a whole lot more than tampons but it remains to be seen if the shorter period and milder cramps is from the switch or just chance.
Even if it doesn't help the cramps at least the cup doesn't take up as much space as a box of tampons.

I've had a mooncup for a few years now. I love it, but I don't use it exclusively - sometimes I'm just too sore, or getting it in and out will be too much hassle that day.
02/14/2011
I've used the Diva Cup for years, I would never go back to other methods!
02/15/2011
Not for me.
02/15/2011
I've never used one. When my love-hole is bleeding, I just use tampons.

I use it and LOVE it! No need to worry about keeping extra pads/tampons on you and it's super good for the environment. It's also a lot easier to clean than resusable pads or seasponge tampons. I use divacup specifically, and I like it because it's more flexible than the latex Keeper model.

I knew that the drying from using a tampon was uncomfortable and could cause tiny tears which in turn leave tampon users more vulnerable to TSS. It never occurred to me that it could extend my period

The marketing strategies for feminine hygiene products amazes and astounds me, for that matter some of the Dove and Johnson and Johnson marketing strategies are somewhat horrible in the right light.

I do I had 3 The Diva Cup, Fleurcup, and now a Lunette I also use a diaphragm from time to time.

I will say, for those of you who are skeptical. Not only did I have the cleanest period ever, I also had less-severe cramping and much less clotting than I do when I use pads and tampons which have chemicals in it. I'm not one of those people who thinks anything but natural is bad, but this was a big, noticeable difference.
03/13/2011
I got mine a couple months ago. It definitely is easier than anything else I've ever tried, and after I got used to getting it in right and out, it was a cinch. Also switched to cloth pads... what can I say, the hippie in me rejoiced
