Do you or have you ever taken/drank wheatgrass, and if so, how did you like it?

Just a wonderin'. Have any of ya'll ever drank or taken wheatgrass? If so, how did you like it and did you reap any benefits?

The reason I ask is mostly out of curiosity. A little over a year ago when I was just looking into natural ways to get over an extreme illness I had been suffering from for years. It kept progressing until I was nothing but a sick lump that couldn't hardly even leave home.

Wheatgrass was my very first attempt at a natural way to start getting better. It was soon after I'd had surgery (unsuccessful surgery) and I was still kind of foggy headed, especially from meds I was prescribed.

I started with wheatgrass in pill form. I was fine taking it for about 2 weeks and then I got a different brand and it seems from the day I started taking this new brand I was weird! I don't know how to explain it. It could've been the whole detoxing crap and all, but I was just in this awful funk that I could not break out of. I didn't want to move, I didn't feel like myself. It was weird and pretty crappy. I thought I just needed to "push through" and keep taking it, so I did. After a couple more weeks, my stomach troubles were flaring up badly and I couldn't stand to so much as look at a wheatgrass pill. So I quit. I didn't feel much benefits and it didn't seem worth it with me feeling so awful.

I then went to coconut oil with some real benefits beginning to happen. Unfortunately I kept experiencing herxheimers (which I remember a year ago, the first episode happened late and I was here on EF so I was complaining in a forum post about it too. LOL) and had to go really slow with it. Then not even a month into my coconut oil adventure, I picked up aloe vera -- pill form. I loved it! I wasn't 2 weeks into it when I began feeling better and better. Now, a year later I take my aloe straight from the plant and am so much better! Hardly ever so sick that I can't leave home.

Anyways, I'm pretty big on health, so after quitting the wheatgrass, I would randomly pick up a new brand of a new wheatgrass drink, powder, mix or something and try it once or twice. Never have been able to handle it, but the huge stock of wheatgrass I accumulated was good for my lovie. He can chug that icky stuff in a minute! It takes me an entire day to hold my breath and drink an entire cup! He likes the benefits -- says it really helps his headaches. He says it just makes him feel better all over after a couple weeks of drinking/taking it. I just don't get that kind of result though.

So what made me want to ask you guys is because today I did it again. Lol. Thought this wheatgrass idea sounded good again. Thought 'hmmm... now I could really stand to try it again for my health. I can do it for extra health benefits. I just know it.' And here I am at around 1AM and just now finished my tiny glass! I just can't take it! It's nasty. It feels like shards of grass. No matter what I cannot mask the taste. Yuck! It's just one of those things I cannot handle. I've mixed up this lovely sounding "vanilla" flavored wheatgrass and added milk. Yuck! So I added coffee. Surely that will mask the grass taste enough. I said "I can handle anything over that grass taste." And then I couldn't take it. Still gross! So I added four small packs of sugar. Lol. I still cannot stand it. The chunky feeling in my mouth.

It's not like the wheatgrass tastes nasty really, but it tastes like fresh cut grass. Or the way cut grass smells anyways. I think it's the feeling of the little chunks that never dissolve that bother me.

I can brush my teeth with aloe vera straight from the plant, gargle with peroxide for 10 minutes, do an oil pull with coconut oil. Heck, I can even brush my teeth with blasted bar soap! That one is taking some serious devotion yes, but I can handle that much better than wheatgrass. Strange!

So can you guys stand it? Ever found a way to mask the grass taste? For those who have used wheatgrass, why do you like it? Just curious. At this point, I'll need to find a real good reason in order for me to get any more of that mess down my throat. Lol.

I have even tried chocolate flavored wheatgrass powder! Chocolate! No better.

I've never tried it. I do juice, but only certain fruits and veggies like carrot, pineapple and apple. As I understand it you have to get a special juicer for wheatgrass. I think the pills and powders might not be as effective as the fresh juice. In any case, I'd be willing to try it someday.

Lol. I guess it could just be me. I'm so very sensitive to everything I touch. Lol. Stomach issues have caused it. There are a lot of things (foods and drinks) that amazingly cause me upsets when they're great for others. It definitely HAS benefits, the wheatgrass because the chlorella, etc -- especially the kind I've been trying to manage to get down today because it contains tons of all kinds of veggies and fruits as well as the wheatgrass, which is why I was interested in trying to get it down. However, I just did NOT do well with those weird effects that time and won't push myself to drink it regularly, that's for sure. Lol. Every once in a while for the extra nutrition though, is really good since I am deficient in so many areas and need extra as it is. I just couldn't stand the taste or the way I felt after regular use. I do think it's the toxins and stuff clearing out, but goodness! You can only take so much. Lol.

As for the aloe -- it's my little miracle. Really. It's done amazing things for me. However, buying it is expensive if you plan to really be dedicated to your health by using aloe. Not to mention the pills and products that are manufactured are far less potent and sometimes so diluted they'll do nothing (I've experienced this from many drugstore brands) that I personally prefer growing and preparing my own aloe. It's much cheaper and you get WAY more benefits.

Every morning I start my day with a fruit shake in which I add green stuff (chlorella, wheat grass, hemp protein...). I love it and it gives me energy and helps in cleaning my system. For the wheat grass though, I prefer to take it fresh rather than in powder. It is much sweeter fresh. I buy it frozen in ice cubes and add it straight into the mixer with my fruit juice and fruits (usually frozen mango cubes). The overall taste is great to me.

I've drank it mixed into a smoothie. Other than affecting the color, I couldn't really taste it.

I tried a shot at Jamba Juice and it tasted awesome. I can't speak much on long term benefits but it was refreshing. I would definitely drink theirs over and over, not sure how others would taste.

Avoid the wheatgrass it doesn't look like it goes well with you. Maybe you may have a slight allergy to it.

have never tried it. I dont eat alot of the health fad foods. We do all our own cooking from raw ingredients and get all the nutrients we need from that.

This guy I worked with said it great and I had to try it so one day on our lunch break I went with him and got a shot of it. It was so gross, I threw up a little while later. I will never try that stuff again.

We have it at Jamba Juice, but that is about it. We are having more home squeezed juices as of late, so maybe we should incorporate it.
