Do any of you ever get cramps after your pap smear? I do every time and it annoys the hell out of me!

I'm about to have my first one. Can't say I'm looking forward to it!

Yes. And my GP hates me -- he only does paps on a certain day of the week and it's a traditional date night for the hubs and I. We both get relatively squicked out about it and just kind of avoid sex until the next day. Haha!

Yup, like clockwork, every time I get one I get cramps shortly after and they last for a few hours. blah.

It's an odd feeling procedure but doesn't really hurt. I don't know if it's the pap smear or the pelvic exam that causes the cramps.

I don't get after-cramps, but the actual examination always hurts like hell.

Me too. Unless the doctor is super gentle it really hurts.

AngelvMaynard, you should be sure to tell your doctor that this happens. Maybe they'll be less rough.

I don't every single time, but sometimes yes I do get cramping afterwards. I agree with Tuesday, you should tell your doctor about that so they'll be more gentle. It's a routine exam so I think some doctors tend to rush it and not pay as much attention as they should, perhaps.

i've never gotten cramps from it so i guess i'm quite blessed

I honestly think it's me, not the doctors. I previously had the world's sweetest OB/GYN who was as petite as they come and had the smallest hands imagineable for an adult, and it was torture. I don't think it's possible to be gentler than she was, yet every exam ow, ow, ow, ow.

My doctor now is also very nice, and he is gentle (though he's not petite like she was), I just don't seem to tolerate action down there unless I'm aroused — and that is not an option during a medical visit.

I always have bad cramps anyway every month. I've told her and she knows I get them. I think she tries to be as gentle as possible. Not that I'm glad you guys also have them, but glad it's not just me being a baby! Ha!

I dread any kind of exams or physicals. I have chronic pelvic pain so those are murder unless I take my pain meds 15 minutes before and then they still hurt.

Had cramps and an ache in my lower back for a few days after the first one. No more troubles after that!
