Birth Control vs Period

Contributor: sweetpea12 sweetpea12
I started taking birth control a few months ago. And the first month I had my period for almost nine days and had to use like six tampons a day. It was the worst period I have ever had. But as the months go on, my period gets lighter and lighter. This month I only had to use a few tampons for like two to three days. Will it get to a point where I miss periods all together? I am kind of hoping it does. What was your experience like?

I took low dose of birth control pills several years ago and I always had a cycle, which I appreciate because I want a cycle so I know I'm not pregnant. I've been off birth control for years though.

I was on tri-cyclic pills for about 9 years, and towards the end of that, my periods became pretty non-existent. But that was after years on it, not just a few months. I started having serious trouble remembering to take my pill (working three jobs at the time to put my then husband through school!) so my doctor recommended the Mirena. I've had that about 7 years now, and I've had about 7 periods over the years. I'm having it removed soon, as my now husband and I want kids... but how that all works out remains to be seen.

There is no medical need to have a period, so I prefer to skip mine. I'm on the pill because I get the worst cramps!
