I love to lay out in the sun like a lizard. I'm always cold, so all that heat is just delicious. I burn super easily and I'm very pale naturally, so I'm never really going for a dark tan look. It's more just to get a little bit of colour and to enjoy the warmth.
Are you a bronze god/goddess?
05/23/2011
I'm concerned with the health risks of tanning, so I try to stay out of the sun.
05/23/2011
I really try to be careful and do things naturally, but safely.
05/23/2011
just not good for you.

We do not actively tan, but living in the SE US we are exposed daily. I have had 4 rounds of skin cancer already, so no thanks to laying out.

I don't tan, but I do think I look a lot better with a tan and did go to tanning booths a couple of times when I was younger. I am somewhat concerned about the health risks of tanning, but honestly the reason I don't tan is to avoid getting wrinkles. So out of vanity I don't go tanning. I keep telling myself I should look into spray tanning, but I haven't gotten around to it.

I am outside a lot. Live within walking distance of the lake and garden as well as ride a motorcycle. I have a great tan but dont actively try. I use a sunscreen but the amount of time that I am outside mandates that I will get some.

In college, I was always excited when the weather broke, so I could lie in the sun. Unfortunately my mother was also a sun goddess but she has developed some pre-cancerous skin issues.
Though, I still enjoy the golden look, I backed way off to now the sun has to find me. I use an artificial product to tan my legs but I do miss the overall color, that was only interrupted by my bikini line.

I did the Jergens Natural Glow for a while. But I got annoyed with the way it exfoliated off so easily whenever I showered or even scratched an itch. I'm using the Hemp stuff now. It's more of a gradual build up, but I never have to worry about it rubbing/exfoliating off.

I don't care if other people complain that I need more sun, let them expose themselves to the health risks.
08/05/2011
I don't actively tan but I also don't avoid the sun. I think it sad though when people feel like they have to tan to look good and then just end up making their skin all leathery.
08/05/2011
I DO NOT actively tan because I'm black! I don't need to get any darker.

Honestly i prefer a woman with very nice pale skin all most porcelain like >.> fake tans are the worst. I love a nice pale woman.
08/07/2011
I don't tan. I'm super pale and I like my skin that way, but in the past I've used that Jergens glow stuff which wasn't too bad. I do enjoy camping in the desert in the summer though so come september I usually have a bit more color to my skin than usual

I fake bake in a tanning bed sometimes. I do it because I have psoriasis (very dry patches of skin) on my elbows and knees and UV light helps keep it clear and minimally noticeable. The dermatologist wanted $1,500 for UV therapy there, or I could just tan. So I do and it does look nice. I am worried about aging and skin health so I don't tan my face and wear a moisturizer with spf 15 for my face and neck.

I try not to get burnt or tan, melanoma runs in my family and that's serious business! I wear really high quality sunscreen, and keep track of my re-applications too. It's kind of a pain, but worth it in the end I think if it keeps me alive.

I lay in a tanning bed, and use an accelerator. I just prefer it. My skin looks and feels healthier.

i'm already tan because of my ethnicity
08/08/2011
I don't tan because I like being pale.

I think fake tans (i.e. from tanning beds) look gross, and not to mention are unhealthy. I have no qualms with laying out in the sun, however. I don't believe that (reasonable and depending on your natural skin tone) sun exposure causes skin cancer like we are led to believe.

Sorry but tanning beds give you the exact same UV exposure as laying in the sun would is worse admittedly but no different in a health sense. The sun causing skin cancer is no myth lol it is a giant ball of radiation cooking you whenever you lay out in it.

Every time you walk out under our lovely sun you get exposed to the radiation so it goes without saying any extra time spent increases the risk of skin cancer since it can give it to you just by being in it.
The more you do it the more you will pay for it the long run. That lovely tan your getting is your body trying to protect itself from the damage you are doing to it so any tan in general is the first sign of UV damage.
My wife is from AU there sun will freaking kill you being out in it to long and many get skin cancer there lmao. Her mom has it her moms mom has it lol the sun is not nice to your skin =/

I tan in the sunshine but I also wear sunscreen while doing it. So.. definitely not as active as some, but I like lying on the beach naked so that's what I do.

Exactly! Reminds me of people who deny smoking causes cancer. My father is dark skinned Mediterranean man, always used to lie out in the sun, used a sun lamp in the winter. He had a dark "base coat" from his natural skin color and he still has had skin cancer at least 3 times. His skin also is very wrinkled and leathery. Funny thing was, when he was in his 20s and 30s and even early 40s, people would tell him how "healthy" his tans made him look. They've aged him beyond his years now, his skin is permanently damaged and he has faced cancer several times.

"Looking healthy" and actually being healthy are two completely different things. Tans, IMO, don't look healthy. All I can think when I see someone who has obviously "worked on her tan" is "Boy, is she gonna regret that later."
I haven't had a tan since I was about 16, I worked at our local Baby Pool, and sat in the sun all day. I actually got "ashy" my skin got so dark and dry! Even straight oil wouldn't relieve the "ash." Fighting fine lines around my eyes and mouth, and fearing the fate of my father's cancers now makes me wish I had stopped getting tanned a lot younger.
08/08/2011
I can get a sunburn through a window, no way am I going to deliberately tan.
08/08/2011
I don't tan. I like the way my skin looks and I don't think the health risks are worth tanning.
08/08/2011
I don't tan. I have used self-tanning lotions, but I don't use them regularly. I would consider a spray tan, but I'm not too keen on the idea. I'm a ginger, so tan doesn't look too hot on me. If I do any type of tanning lotion or spray, it's to get my legs to look more naturally pale, not like a white shirt under black light.
08/08/2011
My mom swears by tanning beds and self-tanners. She refuses to wear sunscreen at the beach. You'd swear she wasn't my mother because of how dark she is. I don't tan because I like being fair and I hate tan-lines. I also don't want to ruin my pretty tattoos.

I am an alabaster goddess. I tan during outdoor activities, but I use sunscreen for UV protection. Otherwise, I've never been someone to "lay like broccoli." (my mother uses that expression and it cracks me up. Apparently from Pretty Woman?) I get antsy.

I agree, I can't just lie there I have to do something. I remember as a young teen once in a while a friend would suggest "lying out" and I would get bored and either go home or go do something else in about 2 minutes. I can't just lie "like broccoli" and do nothing with my time. If I'm outside I want to be doing something, and I do it with sunscreen.
