So, I have a question for us EF ladies out there and am wondering if any one else has experienced this. I recently have bee lactating but am not pregnant. I have had both a urine and blood analysis done confirming I am not pregnant. I also had blood work done to check my hormone levels, they were all normal. I'm a little confused as to why my body has suddenly decided to produce milk when there are no obvious reasons physiologically for me to. Has anyone else experiences this, or am I just a freak of nature?
Anyone else experienced this?!?!

Have you EVER been pregnant??
After nursing my kids. I found that I could squeeze some out long afterwards....and it'd only stop when I got pregnant again.
If not, have you been having a lot of breast/nipple stimulation? Also some meds can cause it.

it happened to me a few months after taking out my nipple piercings. i went and got an ultrasound done to check for tumors. my mom recently had undergone radiation for breast cancer so i was worried. nothing turned up.
went to the piercer and he said it was totally normal. actually, he said nipple piercings were originally done to increase milk flow to babies.
mine started when i was about 19 or 20. and yes, i've heard of and read of ladies not having pierced nipps experiencing this too. not to worry.
also note, i've never been pregnant.

Actually I did have my nipples pierced when I was younger. I took them out about 3 years ago though. Thank you though its nice to know I'm not alone with lactating I went for an ultrasound too they found some fibrosis cysts but the doctor said those couldnt be causing it. Soooo I guess it's just from the piercings then.

Eating foods with a lot of phytoestrogens can make you lactate, too, but I'm sure that would have shown up in the tests. It probably is the piercings.

the more you stimulate them, the more they'll produce. mine only leaked once, and that was when they first started. i mean, enough to show on a shirt.

I think I'm going to go somewhere and cry quietly in a corner now. Knowing this could happen to anyone has me paranoid...

Ya, that's true. I'm going to guess that my lack of maternal instincts will lend itself well to not having this happen.

Even a miscarriage can count, you may not of even noticed you were having one. It would of been really similar to a period, but you would of have large clots and more cramping.

Glad your hormone levels are all good. My sister just got news about hers being messed up. She was having this same issue.

I really don't think I ever have, but every now and then, and I mean like ever Blue Moon, I will noticed a bit of dried, white, flakiness coming from my nipples and I can only assume that I may have lactated slightly. I was on the pill from 16 to 17, but I'm now 23, no kids, no pregnancies, no piercings around there. -shrugs- oh well.

This happened to me once! Scared me to death! I went through the blood work and sonograms to make sure I wasn't pregnant. The doctors had no explanation for it! I thought I was the only person that this had happened to!
11/13/2011
Yes. It happened about 15 years after I had my daughter. I did not produce enough milk to feed her and was dry in 24 hours after I decided to quit breast feeding. I did the blood panel, pituitary tumor testing, ultrasounds and there was never any reason. After about three months it quit. I had a hysterectomy 13 years previously, no pierced nipples and eat organic foods. Go figure-late bloomer?

It doesn't matter. Anyone can miscarry. Trust me, I've miscarried several times, but also have 4 healthy kids, and I know lots of other ladies that have as well.

This hasn't happen to me before but I had a friend who started lactating and she thought she was pregnant. She kept taking pregnancy tests and they were always negative. She chalked it up to having miscarried very early in a pregnancy. (I must add that she was very healthy and taking prenatal vitamins for her hair)
