Adderall and sex

Contributor: Miss Anonymous Miss Anonymous
Okay, so I take a couple of different medications. I am on medication for depression, ADD, insomnia and an antianxiety. My problem is I notice when on the Adderall sexual activity is just BLAH... Like numb... So I normally skip my Adderall most days but then my life is a mess, I can’t function or think straight. How can I fix this, I want to be able to take my medication and still enjoy sexual activity. I'm a VERY sexual human being despite my faults. I have talked to doctors about it and they all say to end the Adderall but I can't.
One doctor even said switch Ritalin, my brother was on that and I wouldn’t touch it with a million inch pole.

I've only been on these medications for about 4 months and I'm praying to God that it would subside.

My antidepressant wellbutrin makes me HORNY

My ADD medication makes it numb

I've taken Adderall to help me through school and it totally kills my sex drive. Plus if I do end up having sex, it takes like an hour and a half to finish. I haven't found anything to help with it, though I would love one. Thankfully, I am not dependent on it and only take it occasionally.

Your doctors haven't been able to come up with a suggestion that wasn't Ritalin to end the Adderall treatment? Can I as why you're so reluctant to try something else?

I am not a doctor, and this website does offer medical advise in that you should talk to your doctor about things, but this article offers some alternatives to Adderall. You can research some of the medications listed and bring those up to your doctor, and if he doesn't listen to you and your concerns then it's time to get a new doctor. There are also all sorts of message boards for people with ADD to discuss different things associated with it and different ways you can try and treat it with non prescription medication.

I've personally been on Ritalin, Adderall, Concerta, and for a while I was on Provigil to treat the ADD and depression. The Provigil is more commonly prescribed to those with narcolepsy or working swing shifts to help with awakeness and alertness, it just also happens to work well for ADD and depression. For me, it worked very well but also made me anxious all the time and I stopped taking it for that reason. The Ritalin and Concerta both made me nauseous and I lost my appetite on them. With the Adderall, I had all that and the more rare side effects of psychotic episodes, so I was switched off of that really quickly. As for now, I just try and make due but I do have a hard time concentrating most of the time. But there are other options out there for Adderall that might not affect your sex drive as much, and it is worth looking into them.

Thank you so much for replying to my post.

I wouldn't mind getting off Adderall, but what my doctor wants me to replace it with I don’t want to touch. My brother was on Ritalin for about 2 years and he was like a zombie, he attempted suicide and started to become paranoid. When my mom took him off of it, I was like a whole other person. He wasn't so emotionless. So after seeing him like that, I DONT want to touch that stuff. I will read that article, thank you so much for sharing it with me and thank you for posting on my question.

I'm glad I could help some. After hearing how it affected your brother, I definitely don't blame you for not wanting to go anywhere near it. Do some research and go back to the doctor with what you find, and if he doesn't listen, find a new doctor who will. And good luck!

Ive been on Ritalin, Adderall, and Strattera. I've been taking Strattera for years and it works very well for me. You should ask your doctor about it. One thing that sucks about neurological/psychiatr ic medication is that it is all trial and error. You're like a guinea pig trying to figure out what works best for you. I hope you find the right medication that works best for you. *hug*
