To stop using condoms, what precautions need to be taken?

Contributor: MaryExy MaryExy
Ok, so my guy and I are long distance. He's going to be visiting sometime in August or September, and we're discussing whether we can not use condoms this visit. We know we'll both get STD tests and get results to show each other, but are there any other precautions we need to take? We trust each other, but since it's a big deal for us we want to be 100% certain. Pregnancy is not an issue (I'm on birth control pills), this is strictly an STD question.

I know my guy says he carries HSV-1. Could this complicate things? Can you get genital herpes from this (HSV-2 I think)?

Questions on the poll:

Question 1: Are there any other precautions we should take before deciding whether or not to use condoms?

Question 2 (for women): Do you specifically ask your gynecologist for an STD test, and does it automatically come in printed form? This'll be the first time I'm looking for the test.

Question 3: Do you have ANY information on HSV-1? I've read that it can infect genitals. I don't intend to receive oral, so if I don't carry it can I give him oral? Is it only transmitted during an outbreak? This I'm asking strictly for the discussion, not the poll.

I apologize in advance for any rambling. I'm asking this off the top of my head.

Doctors are best to talk to about precautions for STD's and there are alot of new medicines to prevent some STD's Herpes shot for example. But also, there are some things you can do that make birth control less effective (dependent on the type of chemicals used).
