I took the pill on and off for the better part of 15 years. I've always hated it. I don't like the idea of taking hormones at all and I hate how taking the pill made me feel. After we had our first child I got Mirena and while I still hated the idea of hormones, it was awesome to not have to remember to take the pill at the same time everyday. The Mirena didn't work for us though. I mean it worked but every single time we had sex, the guide threads poked him in the end of his penis, and I eventually had it removed. We now rely solely on condoms during vaginal intercourse and have nixed the hormone issues all together.

What poked him? Threads? I've never heard of Mirena, what is it?

Yes, the threads poked him. An IUD is placed inside the base of your cervix and the Mirena had what equated to fishing line as guide wires out of the end of the cervix, so you could check to see if it was in place or if it had moved or not. Personally, I could never reach it to feel for myself, but it stayed right where it was supposed to be until I had it removed. The Mirena brand is the small flexible IUD that has pretty much replaced the old copper wrapped hard wire ones of old. I loved everything about it but the hormones and my husband freaking and shoving my body off of his. That was not a happy time in our house. But I had a few glorious period free months before it was gone.

Crap I voted wrong.

Meant to vote 21. (I'm still not awake yet) Right before I got married. Fat lot of good it did since we got pregnant almost right out of the gate..

At 14 I voluntarily confessed to my mother than I wasn't a virgin (my family is super open and supportive and although they didn't particularly support having sex at such a young age, I hated keeping the secret from her) and I got sent to the gyno for a pap test and pill prescription. Been on it ever since, pretty much.

Ohhh, well thanks for explaining it to me. I haven't heard all of these birth control options before!

I went on Depo when I was about 15, then switched to the pill when I was 18.

I think I was 17. I didn't go on it for birth control reasons so it doesn't really stand out in my memory.

I went on Yaz when I was around 20. Now, I'm on Estro...something or other, Proestra, maybe...I don't think that's it. There's something about Estrogen in the name.

I started on Alesse when I went to college at 17. My Mother insisted and by the end of the year I knew why. I'm now on Nuva Ring and I like it SO much better than any pill.

After trying to correct my PCOS first through more natural means, by diet changes and supplements, I went onto the pill at age 20.

I then got put on the NuvaRing less than a year later. I have had much better results with the NuvaRing than with Yaz or Ocella/Yasmin. I have less of the withdrawl PMS-y symptoms. I used to get debilitating migraines every month when I took the placebo pills. Ugh!

Been on and off the Pill since I was 16, almost every type of BCP and the NuvaRing and Depo, and it never did anything it was supposed to - reduce cramps, reduce bleeding, even out my hormones, reduce acne, etc. All it did was make my life worse by giving me more frequent (while on) and unpredictable (while off) periods, bigger boobs that I sure as heck didn't need, more headaches. I'm now 30 and I just now found a doc competent enough to test for PCOS and endometriosis. I just got a hysterectomy. Menstrual problems solved! Wish I could have gotten one when I was 20.

I just went off the pill 5 months ago after being on it for 7 years. I had to stop taking it because it caused me to start losing my hair to the point where my family was noticing it and you could see my scalp bad. Has anyone else had or know anyone who has had this problem?

I've been using the birth control patch for a while now and I love it! It's so easy (and it actually caused me to lose weight!)

I've been on the pill for about half my life. Started taking it as a teenager to help control the symptoms of endo. It's been a lifesaver for me! I'm lucky, I never had any problems with taking it, and throughout the years I've probably tried every pill out there. LOL

I went on the pill at 16. It's never given me any problems but I went off it for a few months this past year when I went abroad and during that time I lost about 10 pounds and felt AMAZING. I've never felt BAD while on the pill, so it never occurred to me that I might feel better without it, but the difference was pretty startling. I'm thinking of trying an IUD when my prescription runs out.

I actually started when I was 11. It wasn't for being sexually active, but for ovarian cysts and whatnot. I'm still prepared.

I took them for the first time when I was 15, but it was to reset my hormones that were causing me to have a three month long period!

I started taking the pill when I was 15, purely for the fact my periods were completely uncontrollable, and it really helped the symptoms. The last time I took the pill I was 19 I think..

I started taking the pill a couple of months after I turned 19. I had sex for the first time a few months before my 19th birthday. I'm pretty paranoid about becoming pregnant, so I wanted the extra protection.

I switched from the pill to the NuvaRing a couple of weeks ago.

I started the pill at 12 for horribly painful and irregular periods, I stopped by choice at 17, then did the depo at 19, had my son at 20/21, depo again, and now I am on nothing
