What sort of birth control do you use? Is it green? Does it matter?

I guess I've gone green. Used to use the pill, but now bf had a vasectomy. No need for anything else!

I just started the pill back up again after a year and a half of the Mirena IUD. (It came out.. on its own.. and I didn't know it until it was already gone.. so I may be moving on to no birth control soon for about 9 months or so lol)

I HATE the pill.

I also HATE condoms, but we had to use those last week while I was on the first week of pills.

I use the depo shot. I love it. No periods! And I was off of it for over a year before I actually got pregnant. IDK if it is green or not, but I don't plan on switching any time soon!

I feel the same. Like it would just be a bonus, but I really doubt that this is an environmental issue that's going to cause some catastrophic event anytime soon, so I wouldn't be worried.

My birth control is lesbianism... surprisingly even that's not %100 effective as my ex was a non-op trans woman... and she got me pregnant, I was on the pill but I was prescribed an antibiotic that interacted and not informed by my doctor (I had to have an abortion) My girlfriend is on the pill to reduce excessive menstrual cramps

Abstinence around ovulation or if we do it's condoms and pulling out during those days. My ovulating self doesn't like that idea though but I do lol.

I use VCF's
link
and male condoms for my husband

and yes it matters that it's green!

I use vcf's because they are safe for breastfeeding mothers (I'm currently breastfeeding) and they dissolve into the vagina and self clean. No worries. They also last a few hours. They're like those breath strips you see in the grocery store.

I use the pill. I had injections for 12 months years ago and I would NEVER ever touch it again!!!!!! I'd rather take the risk of getting pregnant if that was the only method.

We use condoms. I had the implanon implant but had it taken out a few months later because I bled EVERY day about as heavy as a period. Now I'm hesitant to try any hormonal method. I figure any form of birth control is more "green" than having a baby is, so I don't feel too guilty about it.

It doesn't mention there being any issues with it, and like you I don't intend on going off of it!

You and Cherryredhead are lucky. I was on Depo and I gained more than 40 lbs (and I'm small) and I lost my libido. I didn't think it was possible. But, it was. My Man and I used to make jokes, "The reason Depo is so effective as a birth control method is that your wife never thinks about having sex." As soon as I went off it it, and waited the NINE months to finally get a period back, my libido came back with a vengence, and we had been told I couldn't get pregnant (the Depo was to treat a uterine problem) and we were not careful, being used to the Depo's protection when we did have sex) and I got pregnant again almost immediately.

I'm glad it works for you with no side effects. I am VERY sensitive to hormones, and I am effected very easily by them. I gained weight on vaginal estrogen creme and the smallest dose possible of progesterone, when I take a HALF dose.

Everybody is different.

We usually pull out for pregnancy protection. I'll be relieved when Peri-menopause is over and I can just not have to use anything. (I have a wait, I still get periods, and you have to go a year without them to be considered no longer fertile, plus I still have a normal FSH level, so I am usually ovulating)

I take Seasonique (for those that might not know it's a 3 month cycle birth control pill). I put that I'm not sure about how green it is because that article does talk about women on the pill excreting estrogen which ends up in wastewater that could potentially damage ecosystems. At the same time, it also seems like there are much less environmentally friendly options out there. Plus, I can recycle the plastic cases and because it's a 3 month cycle, I only use 4 cases a year instead of 12.

I tend to consider myself to be more environmentally aware than the average American, but I am happy with my birth control method and I don't think the environmental factor is enough to get me to switch. I've been using the pill for 8 years to help control my endometriosis and I don't want to risk jumping around to different methods and causing myself physical pain simply because my method isn't the greenest out there.

Women who aren't on the Pill secrete hormones in their urine etc also. I wouldn't worry much about that. I think the main problem comes in when people flush their pills down the toilet and they get into the water supply. Unused pills of any kind really should be disposed of in a Red Bag receptacle, NOT given to the pharmacist (there are so many great pharmacists, but they do have the highest rate of prescription drug addiction of any profession) Many hospitals and pharmacies have Red Bag receptacles.

You can also crush your pills (as long as they aren't time release pills) add them, with a cup or so of water, to a plastic bag of absorbent kitty litter. Then dispose of the bag where it will be taken away immediately (put it out on garbage day morning.) It's safe and it's how hospices dispose of even things like Morphine and Oxycodone after a patient has died.

I've been trying to find a much more environmentally friendly method of birth control; I was on the pill and using male condoms, but I don't like the idea of putting more hormones into the water supply as well as throwing out a condom every time I have sex.

I'm looking into the non-hormonal IUD and the diaphragm now. Would love a recommendation, if anyone has anything good or bad to say about either of those methods.

I have kept it simple with being on the pill.

We were using condoms for a while until I found out I have a reaction to the latex.......

I've never given it thought to get a green pill because I used Medi-Cal so I take what I can get.

I use the pill and male condoms. Since getting pregnant or contracting a STI have more immediate consequences than failing to be green as possible, I don't think I'll stop any time soon. Though, I might consider another form of birth control in addition to male condoms.

I use LAM (Lactational Amenorrhea Method) and then natural family planning as babies get older. This method seems to work for us, our kids are 12, 5 and 2

I have a copper IUD because I didn't want the hormones in my body or my child's body. I'm definitely having some side effects from the IUD but I will never take hormonal birth control again it just had too many negative effects on my body.

I am currently not using any method of birth control besides male condoms.

In the past I was using Triqular for about age 16-20, I was not taking my pills at the same times each day, so I switched to the Ortho Evra Patch for about a year and a half- I did not like the sticky residue left over on my skin- but it was bearable!

I am currently not using anything hormonally because I am currently not having any periods, trying to figure out what is causing this. I was looking to use the IUD next as I do not want children for about 3-5 years, I am not sure if that will be an option this time... time will tell!

I just got off birth control. I dont think this was green but I was using Seasonique for a few months and it was terrible for me. I mean, the no periods for 3 month thing is great especially for my line of work but the problem was it gave me really bad mood swings, headaches, cramps, and breakthrough bleeding. I would have kept trying it out since it supposedly takes awhile for your body to adjust but the mood swings were ruining my life so I had to stop. I really wanna find a good birth control, especially one that will let me skip periods with no mood swings, if any of you have a suggestion let me know
