Do any post menopausal women here (40s-50s) experience lack of desire? Wetness?

Contributor: Trysexual Trysexual
My GF is in her mid-late 40s and has dealt with the hot flashes and some less than average lubrication, and just lately, her libido has decreased. Has anyone else had similar (or opposite) experiences? Any tips to get the libido/desire back?

Thanks

I'm in slightly premature peri-menopause. I still get my periods. I was having some problems with hot flashes, night sweats and a little dryness. That I could handle. I never had a problem with desire, but my ability to orgasm started to suffer.

I tried all the natural stuff on the market and NONE of it did a damn thing. Finally, my GYNE gave me some estrogen cream and a little progesterone to use the first 10 days after my period, and everything improved greatly! I still have some hot flashes and still need a vibrator for my first orgasm of the session (after LOTS of oral sex) but it has gotten MUCH better. Even my mood is more stable. One of my kids said to me, "Mom, don't ever go off that HRT. You were really a bitch for a while before you went on it!"

I always said I would NEVER use HRT. But, not being able to have orgasms changed my mind. Estrogen and progesterone in small doses also has the effect in many woman of helping with lubrication and desire as well as helping with other symptoms. I only use the estrogen cream, and take a small dose of progestin in pills. It really no different than your real hormones (as it simply replaces what your body used to make) and contains LESS hormones than being on the Birth Control Pill.

Thank you very much! Sounds promising. We did vaguely touch on this subject, but not in much detail and it's really up to her, how to handle it, but I wanted to know what some of the options were. I doubt she discusses her sex life with her DR.

The mood swings are killer too...so glad to know it helps there. I think her period ended just under 2 yrs ago. And here I would have thought the PMS type stuff would be gone F*ing hormones!

I'm happy to help.

I hope you two can find something that helps. Most MDs are pretty good about listening, and if he or she doesn't listen, it's best to get someone who is non-judgmental and empathetic.

Good luck.

I had those problems too. didn't have any solutions for them either. but, last year after working my Kegels routinely for other physical benefits, my body awakened sexually & all those problems are gone. YAY!!! if she isn't working her Kegels daily, try it. after a few months things should change
